$10,000 Premarital Abstinence Prize Going Unclaimed
The Radical Religious Right sponsors these abstinence programs, and they’ve been funded by the Bush Administration. You can expect failure with that background. There’s enough stupidity to go around here, including the notion that the abstinence advocates ignore the facts about American sexual behavior.

1. Interesting conclusion of this article:
"But the whole contest is stupid. What are they going to do to assure the couple who comes forward to take the abstinence pledge and claim the prize actually carries through with the pledge. Are they going to test them every day?

Finally, who the F cares? If it is true that premarital sex is the overwhelming norm, and has been for decades, then let’s work with the facts, not the fantasies. The Bush Administration has been trying to work with fantasies instead of facts on this issue for a very long time. Yet another reason to kick all Republicans out of office.

January 20 can’t come too soon. "

Oh no it can't.

4. Thanks
It seems like, to me, someone vying for the prize after they sign up, should be subject to verification. What does that mean, either daily gyno exams or chastity belts for both participants.

Antoher question -- does the contest say oral sex counts, or not?

6. The seem to be relaxing the sex restriction, but the other ones are stupid
and if I were an American, I'd be outraged that federal money is being put up for a prize rewarding this:

Bride and groom must agree to undergo premarital education.
The winning couple must agree to open up the ceremony to the public (up to 100 people)
Must agree not to serve alcohol at reception.
Couple either agrees not to have premarital sex or at least acknowledge it’s preferable not to.
At least one of the couple must live in DeKalb, Newton or Rockdale counties.

The giveaway is among a host of events with a sex-can-wait gospel. Faust, who goes by “Miss Flip,” visits schools throughout the year with a program pressing abstinence as well as teaching conflict resolution and financial management skills.

In 2006, her program, implemented through Rockdale Medical Center, was awarded a federal grant of $455,510 annually for five years (a total of $2.27 million). The wedding prize involves some of those federal funds.

In the past, Faust, a former labor and delivery nurse, has orchestrated mock weddings, contrasting one featuring young moms, money woes and sexually transmitted diseases with another that has a smiling bride walking down the aisle in a flowing white gown.

Actually, I think Faust (oh, what a name for this) is trying to turn real weddings into mock ones, by wanting her own arbitrary standards for a wedding met by throwing government money at the couple. What's wrong with alcohol at the reception? Why take what is meant to be a special occasion for the couple and the family and friends, and force them to have strangers wandering round? I can see a lot of couples who are happy abstaining from sex would draw the line at that.

Why the hell does this kook get government money for this crap?

8. I was watching the Duggars the other night
Their eldest son has proposed to a girl from a family similar to his own. He's hot to trot, but they've decided to save their first kiss for their wedding day. Surprisingly, there's a lot of hand-holding and affection short of a kiss, and the other kids can't believe their eyes. One exclaimed, "I've never seen anything like this before!" Weird.
