Democrats' gloom deepens
The Democrats are poised on the brink of victory. And they cannot stand it. The news is too good. Something has to go wrong.

On Saturday, Charlie Cook, an independent analyst and author of the Cook Report, wrote: “This election isn’t over, but it is looking very bad for Republicans — and seems to be getting worse.”

This plunged the Democrats into a deep gloom. Good news is always bad news for them.

On Monday, CNN’s John King announced: “Most top in the McCain campaign now believe New Mexico and Iowa are gone, that Barack Obama will win New Mexico and Iowa. They are now off the dream list of the McCain campaign. More interestingly, most top people inside the McCain campaign think Colorado is gone.”

Democratic pessimism deepened when, that same day, Chris Cillizza and Shailagh Murray wrote in The Washington Post: “In the 13 battleground states that require voters to register by party, there are nearly 1.5 million more Democrats than at this time in 2004. The comparable Republican numbers, by contrast, have fallen by 61,000 during that time. Registered Democrats outnumber registered Republicans by more than 3.3 million in these same 13 battleground states, roughly double the edge — 1.8 million — they enjoyed over the GOP four years ago.”

Can it get worse for the Democrats? Yes!

1. I did love this line:
.... For the robocalls to be effective, the Republicans would need Bill Ayers to plant bombs today and not when Barack Obama was 8 years old. They need Ayers to plant bombs in key states right now with stickers on them that say: “I am Barack Obama, and I endorse this bomb.” ....

3. Another good one: Obama has a money problem. And you know what it is?
He might run out of time to spend all the money he has! Election Day might come and go before Obama can spend the $5 million a day he is now raising. (If this does happen, I suggest he borrow a page from Oprah and buy everyone in America a Pontiac. Just as a gesture.)

15. May I have a Toyota instead?
Nothing against a Yaris, especially if it's free.

2. I also have problems with this nervousness and pessimism
Who's assuming that we're going to "rest on our laurels" now? Isn't this the moment that we've been waiting for...for at least four years now, actually eight since the stolen election? Could we be more revved up and demanding reform and even restition than we are now? Nobody I know is talking about going on defense at this point...

4. Forgot to add...
I'm not nervous. I'm mad as hell, and I promise you I'll be mad as hell next week and the week thereafter.

And, by the way, I would support public flogging for anyone who is caught and found guilty of manipulating the votes for partisan ends. To me, that's treason and should be treated as such.

5. I think we Dems have developed a superstitious outlook.
And can we be blamed? We remember the moment in 2000 when the election was called for Gore, and the networks' reversals. We remember 2004, when Kerry's early-evening big lead mysteriously evaporated. So, yeah, I admit to feeling twice burned and skittish. Being cheated will do that.

No letting up!

6. It's rational gloom
We see the process for stealing the election well under way again, and we fear the bastards will do it to us and the country again.

14. I agree with you, and want to add that
the awful sense of foreboding I have won't be completely gone until Obama takes the Oath of Office in January.

Even then I'll still feel a bit like I must be dreaming for a while till it all really sinks in that we're going in a different direction...

18. If he wins the election, I'll start relaxing at that point.
I'm assuming that if they're going to steal/stay in power, they'll do it by corrupting the vote count, not by openly staging a coup.

7. I'm feeling the total loss of the country I thought we lived in before I woke up
in 2000. Why are the educated (thinking, responsible and reasonable) republicans not speaking up about the voter disenfranchisement? How can they feel comfortable living in a country that is no longer democratic? How can they sit by and watch while the republicans in charge are doing it again?????? Yes I feel gloom even though Obama is so far ahead. These republicans will go to any means to keep control of the country and try and keep control of the world. I hate feeling this hatred and disgust for anyone but I hate republicans right now. I can barely sit next to them at soccer games (I can't hear about how Obama will hurt small businesses or how he will turn us into a socialistis country one more time). I can't even talk to my mom anymore (a black will never be president). I feel like I have no control over these feelings. I can't even help with canvassing anymore because I am intolerant to some of the reponses (I'm helping in other ways!). I just want to close my eyes and wake up on Nov. 5th!

11. Republicans hate democracy
They love winning at any cost, even to themselves.

The idea that we need to come together with people who believe that democracy is bad because other people get to voice their opinions and run the show is insane.

10. Sorry, but GOP election fraud is our fear. And it's legitimate.
I'm sitting here this morning less than pessimistic. We could very well be the recipients of a widespread, diffuse, GOP election fraud that yields, or rather illegally robs, our honest voting system meaningless, infertile, fruitless.

The weak link of American democracy is- Republican crime.

19. Sorry, but the article is DEAD ON.
WE have have a right to be wary - especially in light of the fact that Our Victory was STOLEN at least once, possibly TWICE - and not a peep. Nada. Nothing.

NOT.

No more "brookes brothers riots" by REPUKE STAFFERS.

NOT.

20. Big margins of victory make it much harder to steal
If McCain goes under 40% of the popular vote, no amount of vote switching or deletion will make him a winner.

22. Ha! This actually sums up some DU'ers.
On Nov. 5, they'll still be saying "yeah, but what will Bush do NOW to keep Obama out of the White House????"

Feel that odd twitching around your mouth? It's called a smile. Let it happen.
