Obama’s Mercy Saves McCain the Maverick From Being Broken
Obama had an opening for a very hard hitting attack last night during the debate, an opening with the potential to destroy McCain’s candidacy and his viability as a voice for anything, much less the Presidency. There was a chance to break McCain’s spirit and his electability. By my reading, Barack Obama chose mercy, instead.

1. I forgot to add
anything about deregulation, the reckless policy born in the Reagan era and nurtured by John McCain for all of his years in the Senate.

5. Kick and recommend. By replying, even though I had nothing to add
moves your article up higher on the list or articles. Recommending it will move it to the greatest page if it gets 4 more votes.

4. Nice thought, but I don't buy it. I think Obama was sticking to his game plan
as well as the rules of the debate. There was no way that Obama was going to launch into a lengthy condemnation of McCain.

6. He should have
Our country is in dire enough of an emergency that debate rules are a small thing to break.

10. Obama would not be allowed to go on and on. He would be called on the time
and he would look stupid trying it. It just would not have been a smart thing to do. Obama has a game plan and strategy and he should stick to it. There are constantly people trying to give advice saying, "Obama needs to do this" or "Obama needs to do that". I trust him to be smart enough to run his campaign without all the advice from the "experts".

7. ... I think he's smart enough to know ...
... that Dems and Undecideds are infinitely less attracted to hateful attacks. The CNN ticker thing showed it last night.

Not to mention, Obama going off on McLame would play into the GOP-Racist meme that Obama is 'an angry black man'. :eyes:

8. Remember, I said
that if Obama had done so, McCain would have blown a gasket. But the word "Mercy" is in there for a reason. It's a good quality.

15. He needs to needle McSame at the next debate
There should be no problem getting him to melt down, without being mean or nasty. He needs to seal this deal, now.

20. So just show up
and it's a win for Obama? With the increased pressure for McCain to perform a gamebreaker, will that alone take McCain into tantrum-land?

18. A meltdown woul
Show Obama Presidential next to a psychotic, and might mean 15 percentage points in the polls or so. But it has the chance, bare and slim, of gathering sympathy votes. The right wing Christians would probably characterize their votes as some sort of ministry then.

17. He would have (and McCain knew it) if McCain had breathed even
a single word about Ayers, Wright, et. al. Obama told him that if he was going to keep fighting dirty he was more than ready to fight back.:bounce: :kick:

19. Obama would have to
respond with more than defense at that point, which is probably what kept McCain's mouth shut on the subject.

21. Exactly!! But did you see how Obama called him out on it today??
McCain can either put up or shut up. If he puts up he gets it back in spades. If he shuts up he proves himself to be a coward and a liar.
Third option. McCain has an aneurism, Palin takes over and they get a total of 7% of the vote.

22. Yes, Obama was fine today
I wonder what went on in that meeting where they thought to put this into his talking points at rallies. Could it be just as you said, that they want to nudge McCain towards uncontrollable anger?
