Well, the Repukes got away with it
Starting two days ago, the entire Repuke media machine (with Faux News doing the heavy lifting) went on the offensive in an attempt to intimidate Gwen Ifill. Unfortunately, from her performance last night, I can only conclude that they were successful. I have never been a great fan of Ifill to start with, but I kept hearing about what a tough, upfront reporter she was. Well, that Gwen Ifill didn't show up - instead we got a moderator who failed to challenge Winky even when Winky told her (and the whole world) that she wasn't going to answer a question asked. Ifill just sat there and went on.
I fully understand the concept that candidates in a debate of this magnitude have to have some latitude in answering the questions. But this is the first time in any Presidential or Vice Presidential debate to my knowledge where one of the participants flat out tells the Moderator to, in essence "Kiss my ass - I'm going to talk about what I want to, Fuck you and the question you came in on". Such an extraordinary violation of both the rules and the spirit of the debate called for some immediate response from the Moderator. Instead, we the people got a big NOTHING. It certainly appears that Ifill is either a) a complete idiot or b) cowed by the Republican attack machinery. In any event, what caused Ifill to drop the ball so significantly is not important - what is is important is that now Geezer will undoubtedly try and double down on the newest great "strategy". Look for him to also tell the moderator to go Fuck himself. Wonderful - just wonderful.
:puke: :wtf: :wtf:

1. Debate moderators aren't suppose to be confrontational
Palin didn't win anyone over last night. She just looked a tiny bit less stupid and excited the "base".

This morning I was listening to a local right wing radio show, and they weren't happy about her not having any facts, and her "folksy" crap was questioned. Of course, these creeps are still pro McCain, but they know Palin did the ticket no favors.

3. Gwen made little effort to insist that sp answer the specific questions.

I don't think that's confrontational. I think it is living up to the format of the 'debate', if you want to call it that. It was only a question and answer session that turned into morphed questions and unrelated answers.

edit: I think this should be posted in GD.

2. I listen to Gwen Ifill on a regular basis. Her performance last night
wasn't her normal inquisitive information seeking style. I only heard one reprimand from GI asking sp to answer the posed question on a second try. Maybe she just gave up for fear she'd appear too aggressive towards poor little ol' folksy sp.

4. Her demeanor reminds me of that SNL skit with the two women
on the NPR stations in New England...
