How John McCain lost my "Republican" vote
Since the beginning of our nation, the most essential quality in a leader has been honesty. George Washington famously confessed "I cannot tell a lie."

The Ten Commandments direct us not to lie (Deuteronomy 5:20). Most importantly to me, since I was a little girl from a small town in North Dakota (pop. 12,000), my parents told me not to lie.

I had assumed that you were governed by similar principles. In addition, The Honor Concept of the United States Naval Academy, which guided you throughout your military service to our nation, required you to "tell the truth and ensure that the full truth is known...do not lie."

No goal worth attaining is worth lying for, including winning an election for President of the United States of America.

Senator McCain, you have lost my vote because since September 1, 2008, at your political convention in St. Paul, in your speeches, and in televisions advertisements, you repeatedly lied about yourself and your opponent.

You have failed to abide by the Honor Concept. Your campaign is no longer the Straight Talk Express that you proudly ran in 2000 against George W. Bush.

You lied to me when you told me that Senator Obama wants to raise taxes on every American.

1. Where to Begin?
1) This bit of fiction has been thoroughly debunked. Parson Weems invented it.

The story of Washington and the Cherry Tree, a tale which still lingers through probably every grammar school in the U.S., was invented by a parson named Mason Locke Weems in a biography of Washington published directly after his death. Saturated with tales of Washington's selflessness and honesty, A History of the Life and Death, Virtues and Exploits, of General George Washington(1800) and The Life of George Washington, with Curious Anecdotes Laudable to Himself and Exemplary to his Countrymen(1806) supplied the American people with flattering (and often rhyming) renditions of the events that shaped their hero. Weems imagined everthing from Washington's childhood transgression and repentence to his apotheosis when "at the sight of him, even those blessed spirits seem to feel new raptures" (Weems, 60). According to historian Karal Ann Marling, Weems was struggling to "flesh out a believable and interest ing figure ... to humanize Washington" who had been painted as "cold and colorless" in an earlier, poorly-selling biography. While it is likely that some readers of the time questioned the authenticity of the tales, Weems' portraits soared in popularity in the early 1800s.

2) It isn't possible for people to never lie. The best they can hope for is that they never intentionally lie to cheat another person.

3) Isn't it time to face the complexity of life? Or do you plan to stay childlike in mind as well as body forever? That's stretching American narcissism a bit far.

4) McCain has done actual crimes, far more worthy of heaping abuse on him, if not prosecution.
