Episode 26: Sarah Gets Down With the Media, part 2
ABC newsman Charles Gibson continues his exclusive campaign-approved interview with Sarah Palin.

Charles Gibson: Now for some hypotheticals, Governor. A woman discovers she is pregnant following a rape. She wants to abort. Do you approve?

Sarah Palin: Unfortunately, it wouldn’t be my call, Charlie. The law permits her to do just that.

Gibson: But do you personally approve?

Palin: It’s common knowledge I’m pro-life. I’m not ashamed of it. In fact, I’m proud of it.

Gibson: Do you, personally, think the law should permit rape victims to abort the fetus?

Palin: I believe that life begins at conception. So that would be murder. And I don’t think murdering a fetus is the right thing to do. I choose life.

Gibson: Fair enough. Suppose the mother had been emotionally traumatized to the point where doctors felt she might not take the stress of the pregnancy and birth? What then?

Palin: I choose life.

Gibson: What if the mother were physically weakened to the point where the birth might threaten her health?

Palin: firmly I choose life.

Gibson: What if the unfortunate victim were your own daughter? Age 15, say?

Palin: I would still have to choose life.

Gibson: Now a slightly different scenario. Suppose an adult male had been sentenced to Death Row. He’s applied for clemency based on some irregularities in his trial. You’re the Governor. What do you do? .

Palin: I’m afraid I’d have to choose death, Charlie. That’s what the jury system is for. They decide. I carry out their orders.

Gibson: Suppose the man is borderline mentally retarded, and psychiatrists are questioning his ability to differentiate right from wrong?

Palin: Death, Charlie. Who am I to question the jury’s wisdom?

Gibson: Suppose DNA evidence suggests that the man’s guilt is in question?

Palin: thinks He had his chance. Death.

Gibson: Suppose the man was formerly married to your sister…

Palin: Death! Death!

Steve Schmidt burst into the room.

Schmidt: Okay, stop the goddam cameras right now!
