Barack Obama proved his ability to lead a divided nation by uniting a divided Democratic Party. Obama had the discretion and good judgment to allow both Clintons the opportunity to make their case that it is important for all Americans to support him for president. Both Obama and his wife publicly praised Hillary for her historic campaign.
The Democratic convention didn't have to unfold as it did. The recent history of the party created a potentially volatile situation that could have erupted. There could have been heated speeches from the floor and last-minute superdelegate lobbying. In less than two months Obama had defused the situation and created an atmosphere for progress. It was important for Hillary supporters to be reminded why we worked so hard for her and why it's important to support Obama now.
I'm a mother who wants to see my children go off to college instead of to war. I need equal pay for equal work to pay for their college educations. They need a strong economy when they graduate so they can find jobs. This coming election is personal for all of us.
Our family's security is worse than it was eight years ago when Bill Clinton left office. My husband hasn't had a raise in years and the cost of living has gone up. I am grateful that he still has a job, that we have a house and food on the table. Others are struggling much more than us. John McCain is promising to keep tax relief for the wealthy while the gap between the rich and poor is getting larger and the middle class is getting smaller...
