Obama giving some black Republicans 'heartburn'
Source: CNN

Armstrong Williams is an African-American conservative commentator who is thinking about making a decision that he says is so agonizing it gives him heartburn.

This fall, he may vote for Illinois Sen. Barack Obama, the Democratic presidential nominee.

The nationally-known radio talk show host is a proud, third-generation Republican who chuckles when African-American friends tell him it's time to "return home" to the Democratic Party.

Though he is still hasn't decided for whom he'll cast his ballot, there's something about Obama's presidential candidacy that excites him. "History, brother," Williams said. "It cannot be anything else."

"There's very little that I agree with Obama on. Since the founding of our country, there have only been white men who have occupied the White House. ... To have someone break through that barrier, and say to some kids, you can be president. Whether you like it or not, symbolism is important."

1. Hmn, but getting bribed by Bushies to fawn over their policies didn't bother him at all, apparently.

A stroll down memory lane....

Conservative pundit Armstrong Williams has been under fire recently following revelations that he was paid $240,000 to promote the Bush administration's "No Child Left Behind" law. However, it isn't the first time that his media interests have been used as a mouthpiece for hidden interests.

Internal tobacco industry documents reveal that in 1996 Williams allowed his nationally syndicated radio program, The Right Side, to be guest hosted by Malcolm Wallop, the chairman of Frontiers of Freedom (FoF), a front group partly funded by tobacco companies.

Wallop proceeded to spend one third of the three-hour program as a platform to criticise a Food and Drug Administration rule aimed at restricting tobacco industry marketing aimed at youth, calling the rule an "abridgement of First Amendment rights."

17. Just channeling the comment of JC Watts' father...
that a black voting for a Republican is like a chicken voting for Colonel Sanders.

8. How can that shrivelled little prune of a heart burn?
A puzzlement to me, it is.

But apparently taking a quarter million dollars of payola from the Bush administration gladdens Brother Williams' heart so much that he doesn't want to tell anyone!

10. The dude is a sellout any way you look at it.
Hey, if he agrees very little with Obama's policies and political beliefs, then why is he even considering voting for Barack? Because he's black? :eyes:

That's utter BS.

Isn't that what the GOP is hoping to do with the Palin pick? Get women who would normally vote Democratic to vote GOP just because there's a woman on the ticket? That's BS too.

Once again, do not vote for a candidate simply because they are a woman, or African-American, or Latino, or Asian, or Mormon, or Buddhist, or <fill in the race/creed/religion>.

Vote for them because you agree with them on their platform and political stance much more than the rest that are still in it.

12. He's and ass and I would doubt that the story was put out there...
to imply that the only reason black people are voting for Barack is because he's black. Fuck him and that other black republican. Keep your asses over there with the repigs.

11. So he's considering voting for Obama because he's black?
Part of me thinks that's fine, as long as it's a vote for our guy. But it almost seems a crime to vote for someone because of their appearance.
