Fearless prediction; A brighter future
Fearless prediction; A brighter future
by Jaime O'Neill | August 23, 2008

— from the Paradise Post

snip//

The Environmental Protection Agency will once again be staffed by people who believe in protecting our air and water. No longer will the managers of the EPA be selected from the political interests antithetical to the aims of that agency.

The Federal Communications Commission will no longer be loaded with appointees who support the ever-shrinking number of media voices as conglomerates have conspired to make the public airwaves the exclusive province of a half dozen large companies.

The Supreme Court will not further tilt toward the kind of right wing ideologues whose nominations are put forth solely because of their commitment to overturn Roe v. Wade. They will, instead, be selected on the basis of their talents as interpreters of the Constitution, and their commitment to that document.

And I predict a time, coming soon, when we will once again be proud of our leader, when we will no longer have to wince in embarrassment at the spectacle of the most powerful man in the world mangling the language, unable to string a coherent thought together without the aid of a teleprompter. We will, in that coming time, see a reaffirmation that our leaders do not ascend to high office based on their names, their wealth, their privilege, and their connections, and we will, instead, elect a man who came from modest circumstances, who worked hard to excel, and whose example will inspire millions of young people throughout the world.

We will go back to being a country that admires intelligence, accepts the complexity of issues, and reaches out to the future rather than clinging to the failed policies of the past. We will demand that government serve all of the people, rather than just the 1 percent who have benefited so extravagantly during the Bush years. We will unleash the energies of American optimism, and no longer respond to the notion that we must hunker down in fear, and submissively accept the dictates of Saudi tyrants or Chinese business interests.

With the election of Barack Obama, we will have rejected bigotry, and we will, once more, serve as the world's shining example of the long-deferred human dream of equality.
