1. the debates

It's very discouraging to see that campaign discourse is already being dragged down into this gutter. My pipe-dream is that somebody (Kerry?) will stand up to these "reporters", maybe with a response like this:

"This country has over 200 years of tradition surrounding the idea that matters of faith and religion are individual concerns, and not the domain of public politics. In fact, this is one of the founding principles that helped our country rise to power, by allowing both citizens and government to focus on solving real-world problems with practical solutions, without the interference of dogma or the distraction of religeous conflicts.

In that American tradition, we should all focus this important debate on the many pragmatic problems facing our country today, without the distraction of private topics such as faith and religion."

You would be a big asset to his campaign. You have a great way with words. Many of us here feel the same way, but can't express it.
