"California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger predicted that there would be corpses in the streets of San Francisco if gay marriages continued, but as of yesterday, the boom had left nothing at City Hall but piles of soggy confetti on the sidewalk and bouquets of flowers, hundreds of them, piled in the ornate foyer.

The flowers, which arrived by the crate-load yesterday, were sent by people from across the United States after hearing that gay and lesbian couples were getting hitched with such haste that they didn't have time to hire a florist.
