Bush vs. Kerry: A clear contrast - Press Enterprise editorial

We can say this about a presidential face-off between George W. Bush and John Kerry: It would offer voters a clear choice between divergent men and competing philosophies.

That contrast offers a good framework for debate, which is one reason we support Kerry in the March 2 Democratic primary. Another is his maturity and temperament.

The longtime senator also persevered through a rocky start to the primary race, when pundits dismissed his chances and for a time, he hardly outpolled Dennis Kucinich.

Kerry then shined in a series of Democratic primary debates, for the simple reason that he was one of the few on stage who showed the temperament for the presidency.

Kerry, despite his shortcomings, has more experience and maturity than Edwards, and would provide a sharper contrast with President Bush.
