Amare Aregawi, the editor in chief of The Reporter, a respected Ethiopian newspaper, leans back in his office chair. He says America had both sympathy and support from much of the world right after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

"But that didn't give you license to be stupid," says Aregawi, whose newspaper exposes government wrongdoing. "Yes, innocent Americans were killed during the terror attacks. But was that really a cause or reason for this war in Iraq?"
