Andy Rooney: As God Told Me…
It doesn't seem right, but religion has been in the news a lot recently.

Pat Robertson says that God has spoken to him and told him that George W. Bush will be re-elected because he deserves to be.

Here's Pat Robertson's exact quote: "I think George Bush is going to win in a walk. I'm hearing from the Lord that it's going to be a blowout."

The movie by Mel Gibson called “The Passion of the Christ” is the other religious issue in the news. Everyone's talking about that. The question is whether the Jews killed Jesus Christ -- who was Jewish, of course.

I hadn't wanted to say anything about this, because it seemed like a personal matter, but Pat Robertson isn't the only one who has heard from God.

(snip)

My own question to Pat Robertson is this: The election looks as though it could be close, certainly not a blowout. If George W. Bush loses the election to a Democrat, will you become an atheist?

My question to Mel Gibson is: "How many million dollars does it look as if you're going to make off the crucifixion of Christ?"

4. Maybe next time they can get a tax deferred status too
Movie merchandise is $26 for T shirts and $17 for official pewter Passion stamped nails.

Every movie is entitled to profit.
This one spent money on tens of thousands of 5 minute promotional videos that went dierctly to churches in the US.
Marketing it at the Vatican was clever too.

and his whacko dad is a seperate issue...

2. That's just fundy glad-talkin'
That's how they speak. Nothing can happen without God's hand in it. So, like: they can't just say "nice day, isn't it?" They have to say "The Good Lord has blessed us with a nice day, hasn't he?" And of course, the proper response is nothing like a debate on the existence of God or his plans for the weather on your particular stretch of this speck of cosmic dust.

So, I think Andy Rooney is taking Robertson too literally. Although that would be beyond funny: to see Pat Robertson renounce Christianity because Bush lost the election!

(Imagine him shaking his fists and crying as he tilts his head back and screams out "THERE IS NO GOD!")

3. You go, Andy
always refreshing to hear a voice of reason in an otherwise insane world.

I had a 'Stepford' dream last night. And by that, I dreamt I was in a town that seemed normal, but a place in which something was very, very wrong. I spent the rest of the dream trying to escape, and awoke this morning feeling very nervous.

Between the war mongers and the fundies, we are living in a place that more and more reminds me of this 'Stepford' town in my dreams. And that realization, now painfully apparent to my subconscious mind, bothers me to no end. :scared:
