1. Wow, I said almost the same thing to my wife on Memorial Day Weekend.
Good column, thanks.

2. "No wonder the Current Occupant welcomed them with open arms at the White
put on a black leather vest, and gave a manly speech about how he'd just "choppered in" and saw the horde "cranking up their machines" and he thanked them for being so patriotic. They are his kind of guys, full of bluster, giving off noxious fumes, and when they leave town, nobody misses them."

Garrison Keillor is a National Treasure.

3. Macho by proxy
Our sissy in chief can no longer be content with having himself photographed posing with a chain saw or sitting in the cab of a pickup truck. He needs to be shown with the toughest tough guys in the world these days as a reflection of his own manly manliness.

That's what it's all about. The false patriotism is merely a subtext.

6. They should get off those noisy stinkpots and walk! Same thing with the
yahoo's who ride their bikes pulling their poor dogs along on a leash.

Last Saturday was the hottest day of the year here and I saw a young guy riding his bike on the lakeshore pulling his poor black Lab along on a leash with his (Lab) tongue hanging out about 2 feet and panting his head off.

I wagged my finger at him and said that's bad for the dog.
