The Tragedy of Colin Powell
The Tragedy of Colin Powell
How the Bush presidency destroyed him.
By Fred Kaplan
Posted Thursday, Feb. 19, 2004, at 9:56 AM PT

What becomes a legend most? Not this

Is Colin Powell melting down?

It's hard to come up with another explanation for his jaw-dropping behavior last week before the House International Relations Committee. There he sat, recounting for the umpety-umpth time why, back in February 2003, he believed the pessimistic estimates about Iraqi weapons of mass destruction. "I went and lived at the CIA for about four days," he began, "to make sure that nothing was—" Suddenly, he stopped and glared at a Democratic committee staffer who was smirking and shaking his head. "Are you shaking your head for something, young man back there?" Powell grumbled. "Are you part of the proceedings?"

Rep. Sherrod Brown, an Ohio Democrat, objected, "Mr. Chairman, I've never heard a witness reprimand a staff person in the middle of a question."

1. On Feb 5, 2003 the spineless wonder destroyed himself
Publicly, on live broadcast TV all over the world, before the UN Security Council.

No pity whatsoever.

10. No Pity from me either
The man lost sight of his real duty to the American people, to the Constitution, and to the truth.

15. Self-destruction is the essence of tragedy
This is a man who probably could have been president. He has pissed away his honor in the service of a bunch of doctrinaire thugs. I pity him. one can only wonder what the hell he was thinking.

16. Powell showed no integrity that day
An honest man would have resigned rather than go to the Security Council and tell such a pack of lies as he did.

If there is ever an international tribunal for war crimes in Iraq, that performance should earn Powell a prominent place among the defendants.

2. I once had respect for this man
and now, the distaste is palpable.....the perfect example of how to lose one's soul for political gain.

17. Let's Be Fair...He Went Along & Got Along!
Powell didn't activiely cover up Mi Lai. He just made sure he didn't find out about it or any other atrocities by shelving the investigation he was supposed to perform as response to a Congressional!
That set the pattern weasaling out of any bad news and garaunteeing his own survival no matter what.
Remember Somolia? Les Aspen denied the tank request but according to then-General Wayne Dowing of US Special Opns Command (USSOCOM), Powell dissed the AC-130 Spectre gunships!
Powell claimed in Senate testimony that he "didn't recall" that request from Dowining! Les Aspen took it in the shorts and Powell slithered away, to betray the troops again! This time to the tune of hundreds dead and thousands of casualties!
I sure wish the media would start telling the truth about this creep!

:argh:

4. Can you imagine his regrets? Think how different things might have
been for him, had he been Secretary of State in the GORE administration! The sky would be the limit for him, right now, I'd guess and he could write his own ticket with the respect of most Americans and people throughout the world....

Ahhh, such a "Greek tragedy," that.... The price of being the "loyal soldier," even at the expense of ones own ideals (or conscience).

5. good manner s are in order however
well actually, maybe the staffer should show a little respect and professionalism? I mean we wouldn't want some punk behind say, Tom Delay rolling eyes or smirking if Sandy Berger or Allbright were testifying would we?

12. I like the way the British do it in the House of Commons better ...
They yell, scream, and talk over the speaker when they don't agree. At least they show some enthusiasm and indignity when lies are told.

You would rather everybody keeps civil and mannerly as bald lies are spoken? I think the whole place should be screaming! Maybe if we were more outraged when we are lied to and manipulated, things would be better in this country.

I commend the staffer for acting out when that whore Colin Powell tells his lies. Cheers to the staffer!!! Good job!!!
 :toast:

Colin Powell is a Lying Whore.

7. wow
look at this photo posted on Yahoo:

Anti-war protester Sue Niederer of Hopewell, N.J., shouts at Secretary of State Colin Powell (news - web sites)'s motorcade as he leaves after speaking at Princeton University in Princeton, N.J., Friday, Feb. 20, 2004. Niederer's son, U.S. Army 2nd Lt. Seth Dvorin was recently killed in the war in Iraq (news - web sites). Powell told the audience that the U.S. war in Iraq was justified even though weapons of mass destruction have not been found. (AP Photo/Daniel Hulshizer)

he is finished. He sold his soul to Bush Inc and has lost all credibility and any shred of respectability he ever had.

9. F*ck Colon Foul!
Edited on Fri Feb-20-04 05:48 PM by tom_paine
I once respected him and believed he had integrity.

Now he's just another lying Totalitarian Aristocrat and Imperial Bootlicker.

He is the Imperial Amerikan Von Ribbentrop, and his disgusting lie-filled speech at the UN probably mirror what Von Ribbentrop said about the Poles.

There is a special place in hell for Colon Foul. And his gross son, the Prince (or is it Baron, I'm not used to aristocratic titles)

11. He "Imploded"!!!
IMPLODED !!! IMPLODED !!! IMPLODED !!! IMPLODED !!!

IMPLODED !!! IMPLODED !!! IMPLODED !!! IMPLODED !!!

(I hate that term, after the right wing scumbags *cough*...buchannan...*cough* used it to demonize Dean)

Anyway, back to the point, Colin Powell showed his true colors lying to the U.N. before all the world. Now he's offended that we all know and recognize him as a liar. Does he think we don't remember? Powell is a self-righteous, smug sellout lapdog sycophant, but most of all, he is a
LIAR !!!

Colin Powell lied, and many men, women, children, and babies tragically died.
Up is down? Red is blue? :wtf:

13. DO NOT GO THERE DO NOT GO THERE...
Before the House Colin Powell admonished a Congressman's question by telling him repeatedly to not go there.

does not draw a crowd anymore.

However Colin's step and fetch it behavior did reward his son a good job.
