Congressman Taylor: The government has an obligation to build that road. Whatever people decide as citizens is their opinion. It doesn't bind the government.

Wondering what ya'll think about this congressman's quote"...it doesn't bind the government".... I thought the government was supposed to do the People's bidding, not, as Rep. Taylor (R) seems to think, that the citizen's opinions do not bind the government.

The issue in question: Should a New $150Mn Road be built through 30 miles of wild National Parkland -- Great Smokies in North Carolina -- or should the local community be financially compensated at one third the expected cost of the New Road?

This issue is almost 60 years old. Presently, an Environmental Impact Statement, an EIS, is being organized. The website above tells the whole story and allows you to make public comments on the EIS. Please let them know how you feel.

If the $150Mn road is built, it will destroy the wilderness qualities of thousands of acres of Great Smokies National Parkland. Your Park, your wilderness -- the largest exspanse of wilderness left in the eastern US.

Personally, I think wilderness needs to be free from roads. Especially National Park wilderness.
