Voters will judge Bush on present, not past
http://www.suntimes.com/output/orourke/cst-edt-rour15.html

excerpt:

The questions about Bush's irregular service in the National Guard were handled less deftly by Bush. When Russert brought up the controversy over Bush's spotty service history, Bush responded, ''I've heard this ever since I started running for office. I -- I put in my time, proudly so."

Bush's last remark summed it up. He saw his service as putting in his time, doing something he'd rather not be doing, going through the motions, and once out of his mouth, he paused, realized he needed to soften it, and added, ''proudly so."

<huge snip>

Democrats have not displayed the same deep, dark desire never to stop attacking Bush. That's why they lost the battle of the Florida vote count.

this entire column is utter pap and shit :nuke:

1. Yep - he's lying about the past right now.
Whenever his lips are moving.

This is the kind of thing that gives gibberish a bad name. Face it meat head - your precious top-gun president went into the guard to get out of going to Nam - using his daddy's connections to do so. Once he was in and when it became too much of a bother for him - he ditched it. Says volumes about the man. Add to that the WMD whoppers and those really freaky comments about Saddam not letting inspectors in you have the picture of a man who is not to be trusted with the silverware.

I mean say what you will about Dan Quayle at least he served out his time in the guard. He was a mush wit lightweight but he was not the amoral tool we have to deal with now.

3. In the multitude of reasons to vote against Bush ...
... what he did or didn't do in the National Guard more than thirty years ago is way down on the list.

This is the biggest item in the news right now, but making it into an issue of utmost importance is, in my opinion, not the best strategy.

4. I agree - William O'Rourke is a liberal -warning that we must prepare for
a commander in chief vs Dem election - and that video of Bush face down in the beer nuts in 72 will not move many votes.

But he underestimates, IMHO - the effect of pulling Bush off the 911 pedestal

6. Yes, the fraudulent image must be exposed
The AWOL chickenhawk is part of it, but so is the life of privelege, the failed business man always bailed out by his daddy's friends, and the massive deceptions perpetrated by this supposedly honest regular guy.

The AWOL part may be the most difficult to prove, and if unsubstantiated, will distract from some of the more damning cases to be made.

7. If voters judge Bush on the present.
They will turn him over to the international criminal tribunal.
