http://www.nydailynews.com/front/story/164650p-144208c.htmlAs White House aides were preparing to release military records in response to charges George W. Bush went AWOL from the Air National Guard a quarter-century ago, our President was meeting with a governor who is still AWOL from his ultimate duties following the deadliest attack in American history.
Gov. Pataki, sometimes called "Commander-in-Chief, Governor Pataki" in his press releases, was at the White House on Friday as one of six governors freshly returned from a trip to Iraq. He emerged from the meeting sounding like Vice President Cheney, whom he no doubt dreams of replacing as Bush's running mate.
"If we win in Iraq, and we're going to win in Iraq, then we will have broken the back of terrorism," Pataki said.
Pataki then traveled to New York and the Broome St. quarters of Engine 55, which lost four firefighters at the World Trade Center. Never mind that the White House itself has been forced to backtrack on efforts to link deposed Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein with the attack.
"The war began on Sept. 11, and the war began in New York, but we can make the war end in Iraq," Pataki said.
