Drawn-Out Primary Fight Will Weaken Crucial DNC Fundraising Efforts
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/02/19/drawnout-primary-fight-w_n_87311.html

The longer the primary fight between Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama stretches out, the more it will weaken the fundraising capacity of the Democratic National Committee, a crucial source of financial and staff support for the general election nominee.

While energized rank and file Democrats have turned out in record numbers, the DNC, nevertheless, ended 2007 nearly broke, after embarking on two expensive projects -- the building of a national voter file and a 50-state staffing program -- according to reports filed at the Federal Election Commission.

DNC chair Howard Dean has not been able to transfer the fundraising prowess he demonstrated during his 2004 presidential bid to the national party.

Some sources said many donors stopped contributing in retaliation for the failure of the newly elected Democratic House and Senate majorities to stop, or force major cutbacks, in the war in Iraq. In addition, many of the donors Dean brought in during the 2004 campaign have transferred their loyalties to Obama.

1. And, we care why? The DNC is just an extension of the DLC
Edited on Wed Feb-20-08 12:23 AM by sjdnb
money sucking political machines that suck the life out of real change to protect the established status quo.

EX: Kucinich, Biden, Edwards, and Gore and Kerry before them -- the DNC did little to defend any of these folks -- or, the people they represented. And, when Carter, a real Progressive advocating actions over rhetoric, won the Presidency, the DNC/DLC and all other Democrats in power, fed him to the wolves.

Screw the DNC/DLC and all those who pander to power.

5. Actually, not at all.
The DNC came first and has been around and served the party until the Clinton era. Bill Clinton and his associates are the ones who created the DINO DLC.

The DNC is what the party needs to function. The DLC is the group of insurgents.

9. IF the DNC Is Having Fundraising Problems, Which I Doubt
It is a result of

(1)DLC attempts to usurp the functioning of the party,

(2) the total failure of Reid and Pelosi and other DLC hacks to amount to anything as Congressional leadership (and has anyone noticed how completely Steney Hoyer has dropped out of the press releases?),

(3) a truly penniless constituency, thanks to the unrestrained BFEE crew of thugs and pirates.

(4) the ugliness of the continuing primary

12. the democratic party, specifically the DNC, has alienated its base
whatever happens to the party, it deserves it. how many here have said they are not giving one red cent to the party anymore because of the inaction of congress & the senate? i've read it here off and on for the past year. without the base, there is no party. and obama & hillary have completely splintered the party. there is no democratic party anymore. time to build a party that will encompass the base, not exclude them.

13. We are not planning to abandon the party, we plan to take it back.
It's an important difference.
