Bloomberg Ridicules Washington On Economy

'Cash Rebates Like Booze For Alcoholics'
U.S.Resembling A 'Third-World Country'

NEW YORK (CBS/AP) ― Mayor Michael Bloomberg has unleashed another flurry of jabs on Washington, ridiculing the federal government's rebate checks as being "like giving a drink to an alcoholic" on Thursday, and said the presidential candidates are looking for easy solutions to complex economic problems.

The billionaire and potential independent presidential candidate also said the nation "has a balance sheet that's starting to look more and more like a third-world country."

President Bush signed legislation Wednesday that will result in cash rebates ranging from $300 to $1,200 for more than 130 million people.

The federal checks are the centerpiece of the government's emergency effort to stimulate the economy, under the theory that most people will spend the money right away.

1. They fear a revolt about Iraq if they don't write those checks.

They would never do something like this if they weren't afraid of an uprising. In some ways I think they are afraid about what's going on with the Obama campaign.

2. well something, these statements are inflammatory - rather
hysterical for Bloomberg-although we are at a real tipping point here.

4. If the economy is really bad,
worse than they can imagine, majority of people will just pay bills with the money. I know I will.

5. He's right. The 'stimulus' package just adds more debt for future generations. We need
to put people back to work in good paying jobs and relieving the tax burden on the lower 3/4's of the population. The extension of unemployment benefits and a national works program would have done much more.

8. Making us a third world country is what I've said for over two years.

It is exactly what they are doing. Their plan for commerce doesn't work when we have union workers and some non-unions getting paid at union scale. It doesn't work when wehave a voice, a vote, and some rights and laws, especially the laws that protect us from our commerce leaders. They want laborers, but not union laborers. They want to ship materials anywhere in the world that it the best for them - to squueze their nickles by having us all at the wages of the Philippines or India or even Bangladesh. We are not Americans to them, we are laborers. They have a difficult job - to allow the rich to keep their riches and safely enjoy them while moving around safely - while they make us obedient, subsrvient laborers to them.

It all fits together.

in line: systematically take away Constitutional rights - throw in 24/7 illegal surveillance (loss of the right of privacy), tasers, unlawful arrests and detention (civil disobedience) and the list goes on...
