Bottom line on Bush's AWOL story

Bush's National Guard Company was euphamisticly known as the Champagne unit. The observance of the rules in these units were clearly different from other companies.

Under threat of political power coming to bear down on any commander's "poor judgement" regarding a Congressman's son, there are few examples of any commander risking their career over Champagne unit irregularities.

People should be reminded that W's father was a Congressman of Texas at that time in history.

1. If I or you had applied for the Texas NG when Bush did ...

they would have politely referred us to the active duty recruiters. Bush used his family connections to avoid Vietnam. This is the rich man's method of war dodging, and is even more scurrilous and insidious than what poor folks do, because it subverts the system from within.

That didn't stop Lieutenant John Kerry, a very rich blue-blooded New England boy, from volunteering for Vietnam, and then fighting to end it.
