Are Liberals Abandoning Clinton?
My guess is they never really embraced either Clinton to begin with. Sure, we swallow the pill and take credit for their success, but we've been in denial about their failures and support them all too often because cons hate them.

Here's a great column on just that issue:

1. Hillary's campaign tactics are causing some liberals to turn against the couple.
Something strange happened the other day. All these different people -- friends, co-workers, relatives, people on a liberal e-mail list I read -- kept saying the same thing: They've suddenly developed a disdain for Bill and Hillary Clinton. Maybe this is just a coincidence, but I think we've reached an irrevocable turning point in liberal opinion of the Clintons.

The sentiment seems to be concentrated among Barack Obama supporters. Going into the campaign, most of us liked Hillary Clinton just fine, but the fact that tens of millions of Americans are seized with irrational loathing for her suggested that she might not be a good Democratic nominee. But now that loathing seems a lot less irrational. We're not frothing Clinton haters like ... well, name pretty much any conservative. We just really wish they'd go away.

Pretty much on the money.

Thanks for posting that link!

Or are you so screwed up you're assuming anyone who supports Obama has to be a Republican?

22. "Clinton haters" is a term only used by Clinton partisans.
I enthusiastically backed Clinton in 92. I grudgingly supported him in 96. I gave up on him in '00, yet I donated to Hillary for her senate seat. Gave up on her after her abandoning of Kerry in 04.

And yes, now I just want them to go away.

They've NEVER favored progressives, so there is no reason for progressives to favor them.

I think there are alot of folks who are just sick and tired of the DLC. I know Dean has to keep everyone in the tent, but he's been a huge disappointment when it comes to progressives having a voice in the party.

When is the Democratic wing of the Democratic party going to have a voice again?

I am Center Left Liberal who recognizes that Bill Clinton
is the one Democrat who has won elections and has been
able to brige gaps. I have lived in South and in MidWest
and a lot of liberals are out of touch. They would
never have permitted this race stuff to get started
instead they encourage it and blame Clintons.

The Clintons want it both ways. What I find amazing is that in the last month, I find myself writing Clintons (plural) for the first time.

Obama said it when he said: I'm not sure who I am running against.

28. I started to reply but read the article
and it's pretty much what they said,

A few big differences is that I see the shift in real life (not blogs) whoever people were supporting. Those on the fence got off and not in their direction. Obama supporters might have noticed what was happening more quickly because if you don't know who said what it gets blurred.
But lately even some who planned to vote for Clinton aren't so sure.
"
That's what politicians are supposed to do when they compete for votes. But criticism isn't the same thing as lying and sleaze-mongering." that's it and it's also an ex-president taking this role. Support Hillary, yes, talk her up, gather crowds.

The first temper flares in NH were so surprising. Blaming Obama and voters and primary schedule...but you figure he is let down for her and just lost it.

Anyway it just was keeping it ugly. You start thinking they'll win ugly and then November will be lost because the whole country is seeing this!

Don't feel we abandoned him (and him is now them) but they abandoned us. They would do great just being their best selves.

Makes me sad

Many libertarians view him as the most centrist of all the Democratic candidates. Yes, he's done some leftist things while in a leftist state senate, but he is the only candidate running whose central platform is not leftist ideas; instead, he is running as a unifying centrist. Sure, he throws his base some red meat during the primaries, but all candidates have to do that. All candidates move towards the center for geenral election.

In addition to moving towards the center in the general election, all politicians move further towards the center while in office, which means that he'll really alienate his coalition of supporters if tries to govern from the left.

Of course, we're horrified from all the Republican front-runners, so they aren't even on the table. :)
