Does anyone else have really bad feelings about this so-called "economic stimulus"?
Who remembers the $100 some rebate we got back in 2001 to stave off the last recession?
Back when I was in business school, economic stimuli meant creating works projects that hired working people, gave them paychecks, that then trickled through the economy--bottom up.
How does this rebate bulls*** stimulate the economy? How does it instill confidence amongst consumers that the economy is not built on a house of cards, fifty cards short? Apparantly, back in the good ol' days of 2001, that measly $100 rebate was used for food, health care and clothing!!!
Oh, and those business tax cuts...can we really rely on businesses to use those tax cuts to hire new workers, invest in R&D, etc? OR will the executives just pad their paychecks so that they can pay their illegal nannies and housecleaners, or go sun themselves on the Costa Brava?
More to the point..WHY don't Clinton, Obama, or the anti-poverty candidate, Edwards, speak up about the ludicrousness of this economic stiumuls crap. Could they also be part of the problem? Couldn't speaking up for a better plan frame the debate properly about stimulating the economy in order to spur confidence amongst all consmuers, and even businesses.
With governers and politicians like these (candidates, and elected Congress both), who needs a country!
Rant over, Robert
