How much for the women?
Edited on Tue Jan-08-08 01:16 PM by underpants
Let's talk about Hillary, the party, and what it means to my daughter

I have been telling everyone who brings up the coming election and dares say it around the "you know that political guy" is to say that I don't agree with the whole DLC thing (as a means to get them to ask about what a DLC is) BUT they are going to get their doors blown off when they get a load of Hillary, not the Hillary they have had painted for them mostly in the 90's.

She is beyond "impressive"

But if she doesn't (I think she will - google- Feb 5th) get the nomination what happens to the women of the party? Do they leave? Do we lose that incredible amount of energy and talent in this or other elections? You may not realize it but all phases of the feminist movement (me too) have a ton invested in her. There are "girls" young women really who have not lived without Hillary in their world- take a 25 year old and subtract the last 17 years- what about them? They are superior in every measure. They profit from all of the progressive/liberal efforts of the last 125 years. How does the party reconcile that, IF Hillary doesn't get the nomination?

Lastly, my daughter.

We have worked so hard to get a situation to allow her the chances she has. She is only 2. My wife is in the boardroom as are many others. Does this send the wrong message if we WE can't say "Okay" to Hillary? What do I tell her when she asks about why I didn't support a woman to be the leader of the world? I know what I will tell her but there are a lot of little daughters out there. We do NOT want to be another party that just strings people along for purely monetary and political issues... do we?

1. I'm not voting based on gender or race. And as a woman, I do not and will not support HRC.

2. This is a Load Of Special Pleading
Women don't need a woman as president to be successful, they need a successful president to be free women.

4. I vote for the candidate who I think will do the best job - regardless of gender or color
I'm a woman - would love to see a woman President, but I do not believe Hillary is the candidate we need at this time. I do not vote based on silliness like gender or race or religion or sexual identity. I vote on policy and competence.

5. Isn't this the same argument the GOP used for Gonzo?
"If you don't approve him, you're setting back Hispanic rights a generation".

If Senator Clinton does not win the nomination, do you think it's possible that it would be because a majority of Democrats don't like her record, her positions, and her politics? Does it advance women's rights to say that a candidate should win based on the fact that she's a woman?

I understand that you find her impressive and are sincere in that. Please understand that I and others don't, and that we're sincere in that, and that it has nothing to do with her being a woman. I would oppose a man with her policies and record, too.
