Reporters Agree: Hillary Is A Cold Fish
Talking Points Memo
January 2, 2008 -- 3:28 PM EST

You already knew this, but reporters really, really don't like Hillary, as this account of an encounter between Hillary and the press today confirms yet again:

Hillary stepped onto the parked press bus in Indianola for about 90 seconds to deliver bagels and coffee, and I'm not sure what this says about Clinton and the press — the chill, I think, comes from both sides — but it was a strange moment. She expressed her sympathies that we're away from our families and "significant others," tried a joke at the expense of her press secretary, and paused. Nobody even shouted a question, whether because of the surprise, the assumption that she wouldn't actually answer, or the sheer desire to end the encounter.

One reporter compared the awkwardness to running unexpectedly into an ex-girlfriend.

"Maybe we should go outside and warm up," said another, as Clinton exited into the freezing air.

This is a strange and telling encounter. Hillary brings reporters bagels, says some conciliatory stuff. They sit in silence. Hillary leaves. Reporters mock Hillary, with one suggesting that the bus is colder than the outside air because of Hillary's presence.

The takeaway, obviously, is that reporters think Hillary is a cold fish -- that even if she did bring them bagels, she just doesn't like them very much.

The crap she had to put up with during Monicagate would make anyone jittery towards the press.

fall in love with her...it's their job to simply report the facts, and that's all they need to be concerned about. There really are some narcissistic people in the media.

5. Sexism, pure and simple
Hillary would be my sixth or seventh choice voting in a primary, but this kind of stuff is ridiculous.
Especially when you couple the specifics of the charge with Hillary's personal life.
Calling someone a cold fish who has a husband who has had more than one affair is more than petty.
It's grade A asshole behavior.

who admit they don't like Hillary but can be objective about situations that she encounters. Some here use every opportunity to attack her no matter what it is.

Not using this time to bash her speaks to your class. :)

Kudos to all DUers who saw the situation for what it was without using it as an another opportunity and being objective about it.:toast:

60. Rectal Examination
I agree. It's inappropriate, unprofessional, and nasty to ridicule Hilary Clinton on things she really has no control of nor are relevant to her ability to lead. I'm not a fan of Hilary but I do admire many things about her and her strengths. Unfortunately her personality is not seen by many others as amiable.

I'd rather have a rectal exam by a crusty fisted proctologist, without KY gel than be in her position. No matter what she does she's ridiculed for either being a bitch or a patsy. I don't know if women in our culture can have it both ways.

The hardest thing to reconcile is that if she does win the Democratic nomination she will be so vilified and ridiculed by the Republican pundits, every unflattering photo possible exaggerated, ever nuance in her voice, every slight show of stress will be magnified till she is seen as nothing but a characature. Her gifts or strengths will not have any relevance or the opportunity to shine because she'll have to spend all her time and effort denying and undoing the constant barrage of negative attacks against her. The polarization that infects our once great nation will grow and make enemies of every part of the political realm, even more than it presently has. I wish it weren't so, but I don't think our people are mature enough to deal with a Woman President.

6. Iowans agree with the reporters...
Hillary is a cold fish running a campaign in Iowa that lacked warmth--that's for sure.

Since Dec 3rd, the woman has not answered a question from an Iowan.

I guess if it's not planted, she's not interested.

Her campaign has been so lackluster and inspiring.

Hillary is like the straight-A student who shows up for the SATs without having
prepared or studied.

She thought she had it in the bag with her "inevitability". She Roved her way through
the state for a while, and now she's not even trying.

16. Actually...
...one of her rival campaigns has a calendar on the wall, and they've been keeping track since
Dec 3rd.

There have also been several media stories discussing her preach-and-dash campaign style.

But don't worry you're pretty little head about it. Just dismiss it.

You Hillborgs...if it's information you don't like, unless I have double-blind studies and years of research
to back up what is happening here in the state, Hillaryophiles claim it never happened.

Carry on in your cloud of denial that will be burst into a million pieces when
Hillary comes in third tomorrow--if she's lucky.

26. I see...
...so you're calling me a liar.

There is a calendar. So, if you don't see it, it doesn't exist?

What is so far fetched about a rival campaign keeping track of the days
she's gone without asking questions?

I'm not getting you.

If I wanted to lie about something, I think I would lie about something
a bit more substantial. I doubt I'd lie about something as mundane as a calendar
that scoffed her lack of question taking.

Wow, you call into question my lack of sources, but you so easily
accuse someone of being a liar--obviously without any proof.

Nice fairy tale, indeed. Down the rabbit hole we go with your drivel.

I've never met her personally, but I keep coming across anecdotes from those who have, who find to their surprise that she's really a warm person. The MSM have just hated her from the start, and they're not ashamed to show it.

I say, to hell with these "reporters" who prefer joking around with W to doing their job - report on what's really going on, do the hard work of analysis of genuine issues, and without preconceived bias!

After the way they treated her throughout the 90s and 00s, who can blame HRC for her dislike of this idiot bunch of lazy bums who just want to enjoy the perks of the job without doing the work?

And not even a gracious "Thank You" to HRC for the coffee and doughnuts? Arrogant, ungrateful and rude, to boot!

32. Hillary doesn't like nor trust the press and they know it.
In her early days as first lady Hillary found out the hard way that she couldn't trust the press. She gave a couple of interviews that distorted what she had said. One was in a particularly vulnerable time in her life right after her father died and she made the mistake of opening up to a reporter. She talked about her faith and religion, in the printed article the reporter mocked her spirituality and she never trusted the press again. She holds them in disdain and considers them a necessary evil. The reporters are aware of this and they repay her by giving her bad press.

one where people's jobs and lives are at stake.

In 8th grade, it really is just a popularity contest with no consequences whatsoever for the winner or the loser.

If we had TV news in 19th century, Franklin Pierce would probably be considered our greatest president, and Lincoln would have been weeded out of the primaries for being too ugly and having extremist ideas like stopping the spread of slavery.
