Moore Trouble? (Alabama's 10 Commandment Judge to challenge *?)
Pardon the source

Alabama's former chief justice may challenge Bush for the religious vote.

A big threat to President Bush's re-election could come if his conservative base chooses not to turn out and vote in large numbers this fall. That's one reason he told a congressional Republican retreat on Saturday that he supports spending caps on the exploding federal budget. But the president could also still face a challenge from a social conservative running as a third-party candidate.

In the past such candidacies have fizzled. But Roy Moore, the ousted Alabama Supreme Court justice who made headlines last year by refusing to remove a Ten Commandments monument he placed on public property, could make a difference in a close race. And just last week, he refused to rule out a presidential candidacy.

A lot of people want him to run. Last Saturday, Mr. Moore was a featured speaker at the Christian Coalition's "Family and Freedom" rally in Atlanta. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported he was "treated like a rock star, signing autographs and getting thunderous standing ovations." The week before that, Mr. Moore was the speaker at a dinner in Lancaster, Pa., sponsored by the Constitution Party, which has the third-largest number of registered voters in the U.S. and whose presidential candidate, Howard Phillips, was on 41 state ballots in 2000.

1. So much for Bush being God's chosen candidate
I guess Pat Robertson will still support Bush. He was more about money than God anyway.

3. Absolutely AMAZING.
He could run on the Jesus party ticket. Perhaps with Jerry Fallwell or Ralph Reed on the ticket. (Pat Robertson's out because he's already said God's picked Bush)

Who could vote against a candidate from the Jesus party?

12. Good point. But consider this...

How much more can * push it and remain viable to both the RW and to mainstream America?

* wants a constitutional amendment denying gay partnerships the same legal and financial rights as heterosexuals. A stronger or more drastic response from Moore would be cultural suicide. (Gays can’t be the only people watching Will & Grace, Queer Eye and Ellen.)

* is on record against stem cell research. I guess he could propose a constitutional amendment against abortion. I’m sure it’s on his agenda, but this is an election year. Hello, women RW voters.

* could propose more crusades against terrorist/Muslim states, but considering the track record of Afghanistan, Iraq and the deficit, that would be really stupid.

That’s why I’m all for Judge Moore running for President to siphon off *’s religious RW support. The more extreme, the better Moore will appeal to that segment. And if * feels he needs to go there now, he will lose. We know he’s going there second term.

Plus, I’m sure Moore’s campaign would try to link * with the anti-Christ. That’s probably wishful thinking because they’d have to retract their previous links to Clinton. Oops.

10. Jeezuz Lawd Gawd A'mighty!
Brother Moore has been chosen by the divine to work for the salvation of the sinners amongst us. Let us give thanks for Moore's candidacy so that it will suck off (oops, that sunds like that damn Clinton) some votes from the anti-Christ hisself; George W. Bush.

Always said I missed my true calling.

13. Judge Roy Moore --
-- is an unstable egomaniac. I hope he runs just to attract the same fools who sprawled on the steps of the Courthouse in Montgomery to pray for his "mission," and maybe reduce Bush's vote totals in a couple of key states.

Moore is less.

18. someone MUST ask Bush if he believes
in the separation of church and state.

At a big major press conference if possible.

Make him squirm, and force him to state his position on this vital issue.

It's an excellent issue: if he says no, he alienates moderate repubs and independents. If he says yes, he p's off his base, who just might decide to stay home....

But I hope he runs for president!

He knows the law and he knows his Bible. He can weave them into a powerful combination that is very persuasive to those that do not have the abilility to or are not interested in thinking even a little bit critically about what's being said. And he's no fraud. He believes what he's saying. That makes him really dangerous.

Moore's the latest in the long and dishonorable line of Southern demagogues. If he's serious and gains even a bit of traction he could put the South in play for the Dems.
