Fundie LTTE bashing condom use.

Civilized thinking a must in society

GREEN BAY — In December, U.N. Secretary General Kofi Annan called the AIDS holocaust “a real weapon of mass destruction … an epidemic that is killing 8,000 people a day.” The United Nations expects 278 million AIDS deaths by 2050, contributing to a subsequent decline in world population.

Knowing the method of delivery, governments tout condoms as the defensive shield. The National Institute of Health says condoms are 85 percent effective against HIV/AIDS. Think of 15 infections for every 100 attempts, or one bullet left in a revolver. For gamblers, 10 times in wins a deadly infection. The American Medical Association Physicians Consortium says condoms cannot prevent some sexually transmitted diseases, including HPV, which causes cervical cancer.

Sex plagues, destroyed infants and fatherless children, relentless injustice — sexual immorality leads as the most inhumane affront to civilization. Blind pleasures pollute humanity and pervert all calls for civility. The faithfulness of the young husband and his bride protects by natural design, averting collateral damage.

Jesus cited Adam and Eve as God’s design for marital and sexual fidelity. “Honor your father and mother” fortifies humanity’s non-negotiable foundation — sublime logic married to design.

Mankind’s most dangerous WMDs are ignorance, denial and destructive philosophy. Without civilized thinking there is no civilization.

1. abstinence campaigns and condoms
The language here ("immorality leads as the most inhumane affront to civilization" and "Jesus cited Adam and Eve as God’s design") is nothing more than pure hate.

But Fundie (and Catholic) anti-condom campaigners claim, based in part on the research of Dr. Edward C. Green (Harvard), that promoting condom use to fight HIV transmission actually increases HIV transmission, by encouraging promiscuity. However, Green is not against condoms; he believes in the ABC approach (promoting abstinence else marriage else condom use), and he points to Uganda, which has had success limiting the spread of AIDS with this approach.

The best way to understand AIDS and other STDs is through ecology, as is made clear by the fine book by Gabriel Rotello, Sexual Ecology: AIDS and the Destiny of Gay Man.

3. Bullshitty and/or just plain stupid.
I doubt the 85% figure refers to a single use of a condom. Indeed, the way he quotes the figure, it's not a rate (he should have said 85% per year, or per so many uses, or something).
