L M (Johnson) Tschudy: Thank You, MoveOn.org
A BUZZFLASH READER CONTRIBUTION
by L M (Johnson) Tschudy

I have been watching the Senate's Business this past week and am totally horrified and repulsed with the cavalier manner and contemptuous disdain with which the Senate Republicons and Democrats have regarded not only the sons and daughters of America, but also with our Rule of Law -- specifically the U.S. Constitution, particularly Freedom of Speech and the Writ of Habeas Corpus.

When I didn't think they could possibly reach a new low of dysfunctionality, they pulled off the "Sense of the Senate" bill, which calls for the condemnation of MoveOn for their timely and honest questioning of General Petraeus' loyalty. Let me be clear: Just like the President and all elected and appointed officials -- including our federal legislators and General Petraeus -- as do ALL military members, they all take an Oath. Part of that Oath is to uphold, protect, and defend the U.S. Constitution against all enemies -- foreign and domestic. As a U.S. Army and Army Reserve veteran, this is an oath I have sworn to many times and one I still hold very near and dear to my heart.

There is one very basic fact that all of the above-mentioned grand-high poobahs keep forgetting about. Everything this current Administration has said and done has been based on a foundation of outright lies and deception. Anything that is premised or based upon lies and deceit is bound to failure because there is a lack of good faith. When a person learns they have been lied to, they rightly feel betrayed and mistrustful. When a person feels betrayed and distrustful, that trust can never be restored to its former state of pristineness. These are not complicated facts to comprehend. It is not necessary to make over $100,000 a year, nor to have a degree from an expensive upper-echelon University to understand. It's basic human psychology. And, you don't even need a degree in Human Psychology to understand it.

We are in deep, deep trouble -- not only financially, but also morally and intellectually. Our President and our Congress are supposed to uphold, defend, and protect the Constitution. They have, and continue to fail miserably. They have violated our trust. They have destroyed their own credibility. They have nothing to offer us except more lies and more deceit. More dishonesty and more meaningless political rhetoric. That's it -- pathetic choices.

I vowed after the 2004 election and its disappointing results to never, ever again contribute again to a political party nor donate any of my time. I refuse to expend any more of my good faith on such a corrupt system. However, after MoveOn's brave and principled stand to tell it like it is, I have decided to support them to the maximum extent I can.

Instead of doing the people's business, Congress made clear this week that their contempt for the U.S. Constitution and for We, the People knows no bounds. MoveOn, on the other hand, has demonstrated that they are going to go to the mat for our rule of law for our Constitution. I will support any organization who believes our Constitution should reign supreme in lieu of the crass political ideology that we have witnessed this week.

3. I, um, spoke twice this week! Once right after the ad, again after the Senate's disgraceful stunt
yesterday. Just got the email that says TWELVE THOUSAND people donated $500,000 yesterday. That's the best news out of an awful week.
