the Latin Americanization of America
A post by David Neiwert in his Orcinus blog; Latin Americanization of the US economy may not be a particularly new notion, but I think this short piece is very worth a read.

w/r/t a comment by former Sen. Frank Church:
One comment in particular, however, stands out in my mind these days. We were talking about America's future, and where the conservative cadre that was then taking over the Republican Party intended to take us. His expression darkened, and it was clear that he had a good deal of foreboding in this regard. "What I fear most," he said, "is the Latin Americanization of America."

1. The best and worst at the latin Americanization of America:
The best:

Great food, better parties, stronger family ties.

The worst:

Some foods rich in fats or sugar. Nepotism and Cronyism are prevalent.

Hey, come to think of it, we already have all the negatives so what's the big deal?

2. Yes, it is happening
and the rate of change is peeding up.

Church was right. Now we are living to see his vision fufilled.

I've been saying for quite some time that, during the Age of Clinton (the Last Days of the Old Republic), the Busheviks crossed some kind of line, mentally, that prevented them from performing their worst foreign excesses on Americans, though they had no compunctions abotu doing it to foreigners.

I think it's clear now that they have no compunction about doing the less violent electoral and other malfeasances to the Imperial Subjects of Amerika (why not, it's not as it they/we are a freedom-loving people anymore).

I fear it won't be much longer before they lose their compunctions about the violent malfeasances.
