In Iraq, Sex Is Traded For Survival
http://english.aljazeera.net/NR/exeres/36B04283-E43F-4367-90BB-E6C60CB88F76.htm

When Rana Jalil, 38, lost her husband in an explosion in Baghdad last year, she could never have imagined becoming a prostitute in order to feed her children.

A mother of four, Jalil sought out employment, but job opportunities for women had decreased since the US invasion.

She begged shop owners, office workers and companies to hire her but was treated with what she calls chauvinistic discrimination.

Within weeks of her husband's death, a doctor diagnosed her children with malnutrition.

Fighting tears, she recalled the desperation which led her to the oldest profession: "In the beginning these were the worst days in my life. My husband was the first man I met and slept with, but I didn't have another option … my children were starving."

1. We are there
to liberate who? Clearly the citizens of Iraq are worse off now than ever. What have we done. I'm so ashamed of our administration.

I discovered that honour is insignificant compared to the hunger of my children."

2. Another glaring example of the horrendous disgrace that is the bush administration.
This woman has to put herself and her children in peril to just survive in bushco's new Iraq democracy.

4. Why are they better because of the US invasion?
I keep forgetting that one...

Oh, right: We liberated them from a dictator who we placed there and was contained and was no threat to the international community.

Damn if Bush didn't just screw the world when he stole the presidency.

6. The RW loves creating an economic climate that fosters prostitution.
the same thing happened in Russia. Women scientists walking the street for money. It's a dirty RW secret. MIHOP.

7. This is just more of Bush's restoring "honor and integrity" to the White House,
he had so much left over, he sent it to Iraq. On the other hand, this might be an example of his "compassionate conservatism" at work, you know "family values" and all that stuff.

I remember the debate in 2000 when he was asked, who was the most influential person in your life and he answered Jesus Christ and the corporate media played this over and over as if J.C. himself had said it, never considering the possibility that Bush was a lying sack of excrement or that his deeds betrayed his words.

9. Hell on earth, bu$h made hell on earth!
bu$h spent the day giving away t-shirts to those staffers who could run 3 miles in 109 degrees and that woman had to be a prostitute today. And then there are the millions of other horror stories that have unfolded since that BFEE took over.

11. Somebody needs to ask Pickles, Condi and Karen Hughes about this...
... since they've been so quick to claim successes in the past.
