Kennedy Iraq rant hits a partisan low
By A Boston Herald editorial
Thursday, January 15, 2004
http://news.bostonherald.com/opinion/opinion.bg?articleid=195&format=

There is civil discourse and there are always legitimate differences over policy in American politics, and then there is the jihad launched by Sen. Ted Kennedy against President Bush.

The senior senator from Massachusetts charged yesterday, in a speech to the liberal Center for American Progress, that Bush and his advisers used the fear created by the Sept. 11 attacks and put ``a spin on the truth to justify a war that could well become one of the worst blunders in more than two centuries of American foreign policy.

Not surprisingly, Kennedy took a certain glee in the recent remarks of former Treasury Secretary Paul O'Neill who insists regime change in Iraq was on the Bush agenda from Day One. (That it was also official U.S. policy since 1998 is one of those inconvenient facts that seems not to bother either man.)

But Kennedy took O'Neill's allegations one step further insisting that Bush's ``axis of war'' - Vice President Dick Cheney, Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld and Deputy Defense Secretary Paul Wolfowitz - turned to Iraq in an effort to divide Congress, distract Americans from the tough economy and score points during the 2002 mid-term elections.

Kennedy's warped world view takes partisanship to a new depth and therein lies a tremendous risk for his own party.

the Globe is an actual paper. The Herald is one step (and one baby step at that) above teh NY Post.

9. And what else would one expect from Bushevik Pravda?
Expecting anything different would be like expecting the Soviet Pravda's "The Observer" to wrtie glowingly about capitalism.

It just isn't going to happen.

As we've seen, not only do Totalitarians need media, too...in the end, they need ALL the media.

The Boston Herald isn't a newspaper as we remember them from the Days of the Old Republic. It is a Party Newspaper, like the Old Soviet Union and Nazi Germany.

Nothing more and nothing less.

the Herald is right up there with the NY Post on the rag scale . . . both make good bird cage lining, though . . .

13. only the Herald rag could equate partisanship w/jihad...and pretend
to be a serious newspaper while doing it. Well, Manchester Union (NH) would probably try it, too....
