Opposite Day at the CIA

The Cheney/Rove/Libby attack on Plame should be seen in that context. It was not just an attack on Wilson and his wife, but on the CIA itself for resisting the administration's efforts to sell a fantasy about the Mideast.

And that fantasy was of the sort conjured more often by soft-headed liberals than by hard-headed conservatives. So it was unsurprising that at the center of it was a rather credulous reporter for The New York Times. Imagine White House officials huddling with Judith Miller to inform her that those guys over at the Central Lack of Intelligence Agency don't really have a clue about Saddam's nukes.
