SIROTA: Final Insult: Dems Brag to Press About Deceiving the Public on Iraq
I would rather have my most cynical suspicions proven wrong.

But it doesn't happen very often.

The Final Insult: Dems Brag to Press About Deceiving the Public on Iraq

And here's the worst part of it all - Democrats are now bragging about it. Not only have they sent out a Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee fundraising email attempting to confuse voters by claiming with a straight face that they really stood up to President Bush. But most insulting of all, they are actually running to reporters to pat themselves on the back for engineering a procedural pirouette designed to confuse the public. Here's the Post again:

"But while protesters outside the Capitol condemned what they saw as a capitulation, Democrats inside were remarkably understanding of their speaker's contortions. Party leaders jury-rigged the votes yesterday to give all Democrats something to brag about...Democrats saw brilliance in the legerdemain. And with such contortions came more appreciation for the efforts Pelosi was making to fund the war in a fashion most palatable to angry Democrats. 'It was the responsible thing to do, and she's a responsible speaker,' said Rep. Anna G. Eshoo (D-Calif.)."

This is what we're dealing with folks. A party that runs to the press to brag about the brilliance of using their majority not to end the war, but to create a situation that makes it seem as if they oppose the war, while actually helping Republicans continue it.

DEMOCRATIC party leaves us?

Never, ever to the rethugs.

I want to do as I've always done - work hard for my DEM candidates. Both Senators from my state - Murray and Cantwell voted YEA. I've already called them...and voiced extreme disappointment.

Where to go from here? I feel abandoned by my own party.

And I say that after voting straight DEM all my 30 voting years.

I want names, time/place and on the record statements. Otherwise, it's just words on a blog.

4. you should have just watched it on CSPAN

One after another our "representatives" got up before the house or senate and did their best to convince everybody that this was really a good deal... that they hadn't capitulated.
Read the congressional record for yesterdays deliberations.

Almost immediately after the DNC started sending out emails to that affect... saying that we "won".

This can't be sugarcoated - we got screwed.
What we are seeing now is damage control.

5. Yes they are trying to spin it as
a "win" just like the WH is trying to spin it as a "win. That is different than bragging to the press that they successfully deceived the public and specially their base.
As far as I am concerned everyone "lost" specially the American people. I'm mad at my party, been mad at the the party that is trying destroy everything this country is about but I have serious doubts that anyone of them believes they deceived the majority of us.

8. I believe Bush would have brought it to a head and stopped supplying
troups in Iraq if Dems had voted the other way. Or he would have vetoed it again and again until it got too late to fund the troops. He and his ilk would have relished the mayham it caused to. They love the social engineering regardless of how much it hurts people (soldiers here) on the groud. I don't see that there was much of a choice. Which is always the way it will be with neocons in power. They force a "Sophie's Choice" again and again on the democrats in congress and will until they are booted out of office. They just have much less opportunity to do so these days. But they still force such choices when they can. Creeps.

10. look what Clinton was forced to do when the roles were reversed--remember triangulating?
He supposedly could get nothing done so he went along with much of the right wing agenda giving it just modest tweaks.

Now that the roles are reversed, congress claims they can do nothing and give Bush everything.

13. They haven't given him everything. He is under the gun. He just had
them because only he can call home the troops. Dems would have had to cave in ..in the end. Why do it when the troops are in dire consequences (I mean new dire consequences without funding). Bush would have relished the battle he is so cold-blooded.

14. Dems should have at least said if they didn't fund, Bush would leave troops there to the last bullet
or some reporter should ask the question.

9. Its Purge Time
I've been recommending the Government be purged of everyone hired since 2000.
That apparently won't do the job.
We also need to purge the ranks of our own party.
I submit that not one of the Shrubbers that voted for this turkey is worthy of re election.
It'll be a big job, so we need to start the effort to flush them now.
We need to be ready when these Liebermans put their hands out for votes in the next primary.
And while we're banishing them forever, we also need to mark their advisors with the Scarlet R too.
To paraphrase the Joker: this party needs an enema.
