Beck said Gore using "same tactic" in fight against global warming as Hitler did against Jews
Beck said Gore using "same tactic" in fight against global warming as Hitler did against Jews

Summary: On his radio program, Glenn Beck stated that Al Gore is using "the same tactic" in his efforts to fight global warming that Adolf Hitler used to vilify Jews in Nazi Germany, but Beck said that Gore's "goal is different. The goal is globalization. The goal is global carbon tax. The goal is the United Nations running the world. That is the goal."

On the April 30 edition of his nationally syndicated radio show, Glenn Beck likened former Vice President Al Gore's fight against global warming to Adolf Hitler's use of eugenics as justification for exterminating 6 million European Jews. Beck stated: "Al Gore's not going to be rounding up Jews and exterminating them. It is the same tactic, however. The goal is different. The goal is globalization. The goal is global carbon tax. The goal is the United Nations running the world. That is the goal. Back in the 1930s, the goal was get rid of all of the Jews and have one global government." He continued: "You got to have an enemy to fight. And when you have an enemy to fight, then you can unite the entire world behind you, and you seize power. That was Hitler's plan. His enemy: the Jew. Al Gore's enemy, the U.N.'s enemy: global warming." Beck added: "Then you get the scientists -- eugenics. You get the scientists -- global warming. Then you have to discredit the scientists who say, 'That's not right.' And you must silence all dissenting voices. That's what Hitler did."

Later in the broadcast, Beck plugged his upcoming CNN Headline News special criticizing those who urge action on global warming, titled "Exposed: Climate of Fear." Beck said of the program: "There is no balance to the special. I want you to know right up front. I am not saying that this is the end all truth. I am saying that this is the credible other side. ... It's what scientists used to hold up and say, 'This is what we do.' It's what colleges and universities used to hold up and say, 'Diversity of thought.' But it doesn't happen anymore. And before it's completely shut down, and before we're all sent to respect camps, make sure you watch it on Wednesday."

Beck further claimed that Gore is using misinformation to mobilize support for action on global warming, stating: "hey're telling us things in Al Gore's global warming special that are not true, that the seas will rise 20 feet. Even the U.N. says that's not true. So you got to have the fear, we're all going to die." In fact, as Media Matters for America documented, a report released in February by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), a body of the United Nations, supported an assertion regarding sea levels in Gore's book An Inconvenient Truth (Rodale Books, May 2006). In the book, Gore wrote that if the West Antarctic ice shelf "melted or slipped off its island mooring into the sea, it would raise sea levels worldwide by 20 feet." He added that "the West Antarctic ice shelf is virtually identical in size and mass to the Greenland ice dome, which also would raise sea levels worldwide by 20 feet if it melted or broke up and slipped into the sea" (Page 190). The IPCC noted that "contraction of the Greenland ice sheet is projected to continue to contribute to sea level rise after 2100" and that "if a negative surface mass balance were sustained for millennia, that would lead to virtually complete elimination of the Greenland ice sheet and a resulting contribution to sea level rise of about 7 m," which is equivalent to approximately 23 feet.

2. Debate
Wouldn't it be fun to see Al actually get to have a slot of time on TV to debate Mr. Beck? Remember how Gore tore apart Ross Perot ... well Perot was a genius compared to Mr. Beck and Perot probably had the facts on his side in that debate.

Go get him Gore!

4. Look...it is time he is kicked off TV
what we need to do is to pick one or two of his sponsors and bombard them with letters, phone calls and emails. We also need to tell CNN that we are going on record with ALL THEIR SPONSORS that we are not going to put up with his manical spewings.

Somebody get one of the sponsors info and there are enough of us on this forum and our relatives to constantly bombard them. We have to show cable networks like CNN WE MATTER.

6. It's curious, isn't it, that Beck applaud 'Diversity of thought.' when it

is on his side, like trying to placate his drolling audience, but when it comes to other areas where diversity is against his way of thinking, such as everything else except global warming, he is all against "liberal thought" on the college campus...

Way to go Becky, way to go....

And that thing about the 20 feet, maybe the fool just can't understand the metric system (lack of diverstiry limited his exposure to anything but the 'Merican way of "sizin' up things")...

Maybe the fool thinls the IPCC was taking about 7 ft indtead of 7 meters...

Oh, what a fool CNN has on it's payroll, and on a so-called news Channel...

Yikes...

I would love to hear his opinions on global warming when he returns...

Until then, shut the fuck up.

Why are idiots like this allowed to pollute the airwaves?

8. ADL Says Glenn Beck's Outrageous Holocaust Comparison Part Of Troubling Epidemic On The Airwaves
New York, NY, May 2, 2007 ~snip~

Abraham H. Foxman, ADL National Director and a Holocaust survivor, issued the following statement:

Glenn Beck's linkage of Hitler's plan to round up and exterminate Jews with Al Gore's efforts to raise awareness of global warming is outrageous, insensitive and deeply offensive. Unfortunately, his remarks are just the latest example of a troubling epidemic on the airwaves, where comparisons to Hitler and the Holocaust are becoming all-too facile.

It has become almost commonplace for talk-show pundits to use comparisons to the Holocaust and Nazi imagery to attack people whose views they disagree with, whether the issue is global warming or immigration, as we witnessed when CNN's Lou Dobbs recently suggested on his program that immigrant rights groups use tactics similar to those of Nazi propagandists.

The six million Jewish victims and millions of other victims of Hitler deserve a measure of respect. Their deaths should not be used for political points or sloganeering. Every time a radio or television personality takes that unique event in history and twists it for their own political agenda, it cheapens the public debate and distorts and trivializes the Holocaust.

12. Wow. Just wow...
Y'know, Beck and others might think Al Gore is doing his best Chicken Little impression with his enviromental activism (note, I don't) but when their only response is to use even more Chicken Little stuff, compare a generally respected man to the cultural embodiment of evil and generally be a pirck, you have to wonder if they're making a play for the moral high ground or just for pity.

Also, this kind of shit slanders those who died in the Holocaust. Obviously, Beck doesn't care about pissing off Jews but I'm partly Roma (a gypsy). We call that period the Porajamos ("Devouring") and somewhere between 500,000 and 2 million of my kin died because of Hitler's genocidal ambitions. Even if Beck genuinely believes Gore's arguement to be full of it, even if his own arguement wasn't full of holes (globalisation would logically lead to more problems and, while the UN isn't perfect, most of us don't have the negative image of them that right-wingers do), you'd think he'd refrain from pissing on teh graves of the dead.

Who would you rather have a beer with?, and other similar vital considerations were a mainstay of the mass corporate media's coverage of the Presidential Race leading up to the coup of 2000, it's all cosmic to me. I wonder if Beck and Goebbels are related?

17. Here's what RealClimate says about Beck:
The other (Glenn) Beck--Even Worse!

CNN gave their resident shock-jock Glenn Beck a forum for spreading more disinformation on global warming in an hour-long segment entitled Exposed: The Climate of Fear (see also this discussion by "Media Matters"). We could pick apart his (rather thin) arguments, which constitute the usual cocktail of long debunked contrarian talking points. Suffice it to say, however, that the moment a rhetorician invokes Hitler, Nazi Germany, and Eugenics, it is the moment they are no longer worthy of being listened to (cf Godwin's Law of usenet debates). We don't seem to be alone in our opinion here. Beck's performance earned him the dubious title of "worst person in the world" from analyst Keith Olbermann.

However, there was one amusing moment: Beck asked Christopher 'Incorrect' Horner what the key thing to google was that would show that Al Gore was wrong. Horner suggested the lag between CO2 and temperature in the ice cores. Of course, if you do Google that, the first hit is the Realclimate debunking of the issue. Thanks!

23. Beck is a walking, breathing, spewing pile of rancid excrement
John Stewart described him most succinctly:

Glenn Beck: the man who says what people who aren't thinking are thinking.

As far as I've seen, he has no redeeming qualities.

25. He's taken a page from Pat Robertson:
"Christians in America are as persecuted as Jews in Nazi Germany."

Some rightwinger tried that on me back in the days when I was an Internet newbie on AOL.

I told him that anyone who said that was either a liar or too stupid to be a leader. First I scolded him, as I often do in encounters with fundamentalists, for acting as if only fundie nuts are Christians. Then I asked him when Christians had been forced to wear special badges, forbidden to practice licensed professions or own businesses, barred from universities, forbidden to marry non-Christians, forbidden to drive or own cars or ride bicycles, or put under curfew, all things that happened to Jews in Germany and the occupied countries before the deportations to the concentration camps.

I didn't get an answer.
