Wash Post: One Man's Fortune
THE PAST WEEK has given the Bush administration more cause to reconsider its heavy reliance on a single general, Pakistan's Pervez Musharraf, to maintain stability in one of the world's most dangerous areas. On Thursday Mr. Musharraf narrowly escaped another attempted assassination -- the second in less than two weeks and the fourth in less than two years.

<snip>

His sudden death would trigger a crisis both for Pakistan and for U.S. security. Yet if the Bush administration has a fallback plan, it shows no sign of it.

2. This scares me to death!
His overthrow would give Sharon an excuse to nuke Pakistan...

3. My great fear is that...
If Musharraf gets killed India attacks Pakistani nuke sites starting WWIII. Not so far fetched.

Another possibility is that US Special Forces will move to seize or destroy the weapons. I hope the Pentagon has run that one through.

A third though more far fetched possiblity is that the Iran gets it's hands on a few and Israel attacks Iran.

I not positive, but I don't think Pakistan's weapons have enough range to reach Israel.

4. I remember reading at the start of the Afghan war
that we had some special team in Pakistan helping to secure(?) some of their nuke military installations.

Can't find anything about it now.

5. God I hope so.
Whether or not they've all since been moved to Iraq is another matter.

The joys of Repuke foreign policy, ignore reality for polling numbers.
