http://americanliberalism.org/showDiary.do?diaryId=805 The New York Times lead editorial on Sunday was about Carl Rove. Rove is implicated in what appears on the surface to be an illegal interference with the conduct of the Department of Justice. But, it is not Rove alone in this mess. Rove is a key, a major "enabler" for the Decider in the White House. Bush has been a major proponent of the death penalty, as we all know from his reign of bloodshed as Texas Governor, but not only because he does believe in the efficacy of the death penalty and killing innocent people in war, but because it is stunningly emblematic of the conservative view of humanity, that is, those who by their own individual hard work, good works, or family inheritance deserve to be rich and famous and those who by their own bad "choices" and bad luck deserve whatever comes their way.
JB :: Rove and the Destruction of Democracy
The emerging fact ... emerging now in the media on a daily basis because of innumerable scandals and screw-ups, but known and spoken of by insightful people since before 9/11 ... Rove and Bush and Cheney and Gingrich and DeLay have been on a path to make a one-party dictatorship out of our American republic. There is no doubt of this. Rove, given the go-ahead to use any part of the federal government to promote Republicans and screw Democrats, has so thoroughly polluted the government as to make it uninhabitable by honest men and women.
The time for serious work is here. Impeachment of Alberto Gonzales is a good place to start. He is a demonstrated liar. The business of the Department of Justice has been molded to a political objective and the FBI has run amuck, all with the tacit and direct approval of Gonzales. President James Madison, one of the Framers of the Constitution, specifically identified Gonzales's crimes as impeachable!
Impeachment of Cheney for destroying the counter-proliferation section of the CIA in his attempt to besmirch the reputation of Ambassador Wilson, who stood up to him in public, calling his bullcrap about nuclear weapons in Iraq just exactly what it was! Cheney must go!....The fact is that Bush is backed into a corner. His vicious enablers have left him no room in which to do the normal kind of political maneuvering, face saving, and expedient acts of contrition. This is why he must refuse to let his aids testify. If they would not perjure themselves, they would drag the Presidency into the hell hole it has created for itself....
