Who Killed the Iran Provision?
He nailed my reaction here.

You got to tell your rep in congress to knock off risking a world war to please extremists here and in Israel. An attack on Iran would serve neither our security interests or Israel's, and if we were a true friend to Israel, we would treat them the way we do other allies and tell them when they are out of line.

Find your congressman (upper left hand corner):

Yell at Pelosi:

Cenk found one of the guys who scuttled the Iraq war provision. Give him a piece of your mind too.

I want names. Which so-called conservative Democrats and Israeli-lobby suck-ups killed the provision to stop war with Iran?

Will they be cowards and hide or are they proud of their handy work? We worked so hard to get one provision in a bill that says that President Bush must get Congressional approval before he launches an attack against Iran.
And they killed it in secret -- within the Democratic caucus! And it looks like they're going to get away with it.

The provision didn't say we could never attack Iran. Or that we would be taking that option off the table in negotiations. It said the president must get congressional approval. You know, like it says in the constitution.

What, that was too much for conservative Democrats? Do they really believe the president - especially this president - should have the unilateral authority to attack Iran (or any country for that matter) without getting Congressional approval? Are they nuts?

I get the "conservative" part of "conservative Democrats." Because conservatives bow down to authority without regard to reason or law. But I don't get the "Democrat" part. What part of giving President Bush complete authority to start a new, disastrous war makes you a Democrat?

UPDATE -- We now know the leader of the pack. http://www.house.gov/boyd/bio.html">Rep. Allen Boyd (D-Fla.) led the charge to http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/03/10/AR2007031001300_pf.html">kill off the Iran provision. People should let him know their dissatisfaction. His office number: (202) 225-5235

1. 'Israeli lobby suck-ups'. I REALLY want someone who takes offense
to that explain to me your reasons. Is it grouping all Israelis together, or is there a better name to call them by? This issue needs to be addressed; I would like to be on the right page.

the anti-semitism disclaimers every fucking time.

People need to just grow up. Here's a newsflash--to most Americans, being Jewish is about as alien as being Italian or Polish.

Unless someone says something derogatory of a racial or religious nature, that should be off the table.

Criticizing Israeli policy should be the same as criticizing Iranian, or British, or AMERICAN policy.

Jesus fucking Christ--and I mean that in a secular way.

3. Hey, I'm on your side. Everytime
Israel is mentioned people have to defend themselves and I hate feeling like I've offended someone.
I'm asking for someone to lay it out and tell me what is so offensive, so I can understand.
This wasn't the post to ask this in; maybe tomorrow. Or not, because I'd be ducking.

4. sorry. I got your subject line, but the text switched the subject from "someone" to "you"
so I thought you wanted someone to say it wasn't a swipe at all Jews.

I've gotten so used to seeing that retort, that I put this in a letter to Pelosi and my congressman:

I love Jews. I have many Jewish friends, and would gladly marry a Jewish girl and let her raise our kids as Jews.
