http://www.warblogging.com/archives/000776.phpWell, there's a very good reason why the United States Senate voted in favor of an invasion and occupation of Iraq. Florida Today reports today that U.S. Senator Bill Nelson, a Democrat, has come clean on what happened before the war powers act resolution was passed.
Senator Nelson says that 75 senators received a classified briefing "before last October's congressional vote". In that classified briefing a Bush Administration official told the senators "that Iraq not only had weapons of mass destruction, but that they had the means to deliver them to East Coast cities."
Knowing what we know today — and even knowing what we knew then — that statement is absurd on its face. But apparently the senators believed this lie. Senator Nelson apparently did — he voted for the war.
