The Blond Leading the Blind is by Daniel Borchers, who is the founder of Citizens for Principled Conservatism, a group devoted to promoting honesty and integrity on the right. He may just be the only right-winger out there who's not a hypocrite! Here's a sample:
“Conservative icon” Ann Coulter is a liar, yet remains beloved by her fans. Why?
The extent to which Ann Coulter’s advocates defend the indefensible, and the depth of their passion in her defense, suggest that all is not well within the Conservative Movement.
SLANDER AND TREASON
Ann Coulter’s last two best-sellers came under intense media scrutiny for their factual failures. To this day, Coulter claims that Slander contains only a few minor errors.
There are 780 footnotes in the back of Slander, and so far, Ms. Coulter said, only two minor, irrelevant errors have surfaced. “‘Do you realize what this means?’” she said she told her agent. “This means the rest of this book is true! This is scandalous!” – George Gurley, “Coultergeist,” New York Observer, 8/26/02
That claim – “only two minor, irrelevant errors have surfaced“ – was reiterated in the October 2003 issue of Newsmax.
The truth is that many people found many errors in Slander. Among them: Joe Conason, Chicago Sun Times, New York Times, Pop Politics, Reason, Salon, Spinsanity, St. Petersburg Times, Washingtonian, Washington Monthly, and Washington Post. Even Columbia Journalism Review weighed in on this issue.
Daily Howler provided an entire series of analyses of Coulter’s book, commentary and interviews. Slannder gave a devastatingly detailed analysis of just the footnotes to chapter 2 of Slander and a hilarious and damning redacted version of chapter 2 – Coulter’s favorite chapter – visually demonstrating how little substance there is to her book. (Most of the text is blacked out!) Further, Scoobie Davis and AntiCoulter both offered critiques of Coulter’s book and her work.
Coulter’s latest book received even less support from conservatives and libertarians, with many objective critics finding fault with Treason: among them, Arnold Beichman, Paul Greenberg, Jim Pinkerton, Dorothy Rabinowitz, Reason, Weekly Standard, Find Law and History News Network. Nevertheless, Coulter is lauded as a courageous conservative icon, an “exemplar of the conservative movement” and “the Joan of Arc of the right.”
