Here's what our bomblets did to one of our own soldiers
http://www.pittsburghlive.com/x/tribune-review/news/s_145991.html

"I'm supposed to be dead right now."
Those words help to bolster the confidence of U.S. Army Pfc. Salvatore "Sam" Ross, a 20-year-old who faces a long road to rehabilitation. The Fayette County man suffered life-altering combat wounds in an explosion in May in Iraq, where Ross and an Iraqi civilian were clearing a field of unexploded Iraqi bomblets.

"We got into an area where some children had been killed," Ross recalled Tuesday from his room at the VA Pittsburgh Health Care System. "We removed thousands of (unexploded bomblets). I was in an area where we were picking some up, and as we were putting them in the pit, there was some freak accident causing them to explode."

Ross lost sight in both eyes. His severely damaged left leg had to be amputated 4 to 5 inches below the knee. He suffered shrapnel wounds over much of his body.

1. Ok...maybe I'm missing something....
but how does "were clearing a field of unexploded Iraqi bomblets" become "our bomblets"?

5. Do you really believe these were Iraqi bomblets?
Edited on Wed Jul-23-03 04:52 PM by rmpalmer
I don't. This is Dicky Mellon Scaife's paper. I think this is some poor writing. I believe it was us who dropped and shot in artillery shells all these little yellow bomblets in both Afghanistan and Iraq that are attractive to kiddies who pick them up and lose their life or their limbs and eyes like this soldier.

I believe other nations are trying to get the US to stop using these weapons, but just like mines we won't sign on.

7. As an artilleryman, I will direct you
to the conventional weaponry of Iraq:

The ASTROS system

Types of Munitions:
-------------------
DPICM (That's Dual Purpose Improved Conventional Munitions...bomblets)
HE-Incendiary
Antitank mines
Antipersonnel mines (That's more bomblets)
Runway Denial

9. another intelligence failure
here is a capability not detailed.

I have marked it for you.

On a serious note, the disabled vets will not be silent. Bush is screwing them at his own peril.

LOL :eyes:

Iraqis didn't have cluster bombs and even if they did what were they going to drop them from?

8. Please see response #7
You can also launch bomblets from artillery, which the Iraqis have.

2. and he'll soon find out that the VA budget cuts means he won't
get a replacement for the prosthesis device as his wounds heal, that his drug costs are beyond his ability to pay, that physical therapy has been virtually eliminated and that the assistance he need for his blindness is not available....for many years, I recorded books for "Recording for the Blind" to help our returning Veterans...

there are recording studios in most states, please help OUR Veterans, because bush* has abandoned them....

I had a friend who was injured and lost his eyesight in Vietnam (along with part of his face)...like many Vietnam Veterans, he was simply given minimal medical care, an inadequate monthly check, and no psychological counseling or mental health support....he died several years after returning from Vietnam, and his sister had to fight the VA to get a decent military burial...

3. Max Cleland redux
And if he runs for office 20 years from now as a Democrat, some chickenhawk Republican will call him unpatriotic and say that he "hates America".

4. Where is his heros welcome?
No parades? No police escort? No protection from the sherriffs in case of a terrorist attack? What about the reporters? Where are they?

Oh I am so sorry. This isn't some cute little blue-eyed blonde that they can package the war around. Sickening isn't it?
