Kissinger urges US to drop nuclear weapons
Kissinger urges US to drop nuclear weapons
HENRY Kissinger, a former US secretary of state, and three other prominent security experts urged the United States yesterday to take the lead in creating "a world without nuclear weapons".

Reliance on nuclear weapons as a deterrent was "increasingly hazardous and decreasingly effective", said the cross-party group, which also included: George Shultz, another former secretary of state; William Perry, a former US defence secretary; and Sam Nunn, a former chairman of the Senate's armed services committee.

Kissinger Joins Call For Global Nuke Ban
(AP) Four prominent U.S. defense experts said Thursday the United States could make a "vital contribution" toward ending a growing nuclear proliferation threat by working with other countries toward creating "a world without nuclear weapons."

Reliance on nuclear weapons as a deterrent “is becoming increasingly hazardous and decreasingly effective,” the bipartisan group said in a commentary.

The authors were former Secretary of State Henry A. Kissinger, former Secretary of State George P. Shultz, former Defense Secretary William Perry and former Senate Armed Services Committee Chairman Sam Nunn.

1. First thing
That the man has said that I wholeheartedly agree with.

Mind you, the US should also take the lead in banning bioweapons, white phosphorus, laser and sonic weapons, and a few thousand other things.

3. I read this to hubby and his first response was:
"Hmmm, that means they have the space based weapons ready to go then huh?"

and the second thing out of his mouth was

"Kissinger is just trying to get into heaven after all his shit all these years"

no wonder I call him "the wise and wonderful Mr."

5. Has he been watching 'Superman IV' again?
:yoiks:

Is seriousness: It's a noble thought on his part, but how realistic is it?

7. Here is the reason
All of the "rogue states" who don't follow the US model of capitalism (i.e. Iran & North Korea) are now getting nukes and the US can do nothing about it. So now the US will try to us the "nuke ban" to attract support from Canada, Latin America, Europe to overthrow these "rogue regimes" who want to develop nukes. It is also another way for the West to zero in on Russia.
