letter to Minneapolis Star Tribune, December 8, 2003:
On Dec. 3, Michele Kimball, the Minnesota state director of the AARP, wrote in a letter to the Star Tribune: "In truth, our policies are very much reflective of the ongoing and proactive input we seek from as many members as possible."
On Dec. 4, Kathy Tefft-Keller, the director of AARP Ohio, wrote in the Cleveland Plain Dealer: "In truth, our policies are very much reflective of the ongoing and proactive input we seek from as many members as possible."
And also on Dec. 4, Lois Aronstein, state director, AARP New York, wrote in the Albany Times-Union: "In truth, our policies are very much reflective of the ongoing and proactive input we seek from as many members as possible".
All three neglected to add the following to their identical letters: "Our letters to the editor, oddly enough, are precisely reflective of the opinions of someone in Washington who provided us a letter to send in our own names to any paper with the nerve to print Dale Van Atta's criticism."
We may speculate as to whether that someone was reporting to the AARP senior management, the Republican National Committee or Karl Rove -- not that it makes much difference.
Karl Burton, Minneapolis.
