San Francisco Chronicle: Why Newsom is our choice
From the San Francisco Chronicle
Dated Sunday December 7

EDITORIAL:
Why Newsom is our choice

San Francisco is in desperate need of solutions to its myriad ills. It needs a leader who is strong enough to put politics aside in favor of producing results.
Of the two candidates vying to be the next mayor, Supervisor Gavin Newsom has been the most issue-focused candidate and the one who has shown the most willingness to tackle the city's vexing problems, such as homelessness. His agenda shows a commitment to balance the needs of all interests in this city.
Newsom has studied the issues and wants to bring best practices to bear in dealing with them. He was the best choice in the crowded field of candidates in the general election -- and is clearly better equipped for the job than his runoff opponent, Supervisor Matt Gonzalez.

For those following the San Francisco mayorial race.

1. this is not surprising
isn't this the same outfit that got rid of Stepahnie Salter's column because she was too "liberal"? In a liberal bastion such as San Francisco? Imagine that!

This just shows that the establishment in SF wants it's new Willie Brown.

2. A great reason to vote Gonzales
Edited on Sun Dec-07-03 06:20 PM by Ardee
the Chronic which used to be a nice little paper, has become a bastion of status quo stodginess. The only issues Newsom addresssed in his time on the board of supes were those directly affecting his own busines interests. He is made in the mold of self serving republican politicos everywhere and will continue to destroy that which makes SF a special place.

That article bleats:
"Democrat Newsom has shown a willingness to work with corporate and community interests, as evidenced by his backing from labor unions, neighborhood groups and an impressive array of established political heavyweights.

By contrast, Gonzalez ascended in city politics as a progressive who built a following by working against business, developers, landlords and all things Willie Brown."

Anyone willing to work against all things Willie Brown has my vote automatically.

...the Chronicle is concerned with one thing and one thing only, advertisers.Newsom represents the destruction of SF by selling it out to the "heavyweights" that the Chronic needs to sell its ad spaces, its really that simple.
