Iraq strategy not working: Lib MP (Australia)
QUEENSLAND Liberal Russell Trood has broken ranks over the Government's policy in Iraq, warning coalition forces may never be able to stabilise the country and could be exacerbating internal tensions.

The intervention of Senator Trood, a foreign policy specialist before entering Parliament, comes as the Government fends off a renewed opposition attack over its Iraq strategy.

His decision to voice concerns opens up cracks in a generally united coalition policy on Iraq, which had thus far only been publicly criticised by outspoken WA Liberal Judi Moylan.

In an interview with The Bulletin magazine, Senator Trood, whose election in 2004 gave the Government its Senate majority, said the progress of coalition forces in Iraq was falling well behind expectations.
