It was the worst-written Queen's Speech in history
More than a few of us Tories, while delighting in Michael Howard's skill at the Dispatch Box, have no great objection to Tony Blair.
First, he is skilled at the Dispatch Box himself. Mr Howard's appointment has just made the contest even. We approve of Mr Blair for the reason that Left-liberal opinion and Old Labour disapprove.

He and she had made the country, or at least England, resemble America, in that economics was not the subject of unbridgeable differences between the two main parties.
We object, however, to the effect of Blairism, if not Mr Blair personally, on the language. What the Queen had to deliver at the State Opening of Parliament on Wednesday was, by general consent, the worst-written Queen's Speech in history.
