Iran demands UN be relocated from New York

Tehran, Iran, Sep. 04 – Iran suggested on Monday that the United Nations headquarters be relocated from New York to a country other than the United States.

“The U.S. tries to pressure Iran in any way possible. We are convinced that considerations should be made regarding the United Nations which is based in this country”, government spokesman Gholam-Hossein Elham told reporters during his weekly press conference.

“Either the UN must be relocated from the U.S. and set up in a different country or the U.S.’s provisions in this regard must be limited so that the UN plays a more serious role”, Elham said.

He accused the UN of being an “instrument” in the hands of Washington.

UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan was in Tehran over the weekend and unsuccessfully tried to talk the theocratic government into cooperating with the demands of the UN Security Council.

It would put the pro-war fundies in a bind. They could crow that it fits the definition of "good news from Iraq." On the other hand they couldn't support it because it would be located in a non-christian nation.

If the UN were located in a more neutral country, the US couldn't exert undue influence any longer, which would be a good thing for all of us.

10. Move the UN HQ to Jerusalem/El Quds and

adopt a resolution cutting the US contributions. Might increase the incentive to solve the middle east conflict while immunizing the UN from US black mail and releasing hard earned American tax monies to be spent on social security.
