Forecasts of Republicans losing House mark official start of US campaign
WASHINGTON (AFP) - A political campaign forecast to result in across-the-board political losses for US President George W. Bush's Republican Party officially gets under way, with polls showing voter fatigue with the war in Iraq and a yearning for change.

Although campaigning is now a year-long affair, by tradition Labor Day marks the formal beginning of a political season every election year.

All 435 seats in the House of Representatives, 34 Senate seats, 36 governorships as well as countless mayoral and other local positions will be in play on November 7, when Americans go to the polls in midterm elections.

With Congress now firmly in Republican hands, Democrats have a steep hill to climb: they need a net gain of 15 seats to wrest control of the House -- and of six seats to take over the Senate.

1. Let's win. And build the party for '08, '12, '16, and so on.
The Rethugs control all 3 branches of our government and have made a spectacular mess of things.

2. Don't get too confident out there!
Across the blogosphere I see people almost giddy, like we had already won the elections. Don't forget that these guys stole at least one election and are masters of framing the issues in ways which quickly change the minds of the voters.

3. As Abraham Lincoln once said
"the hen is the smartest bird on the farm, she doesn't cackle until the egg is laid."
