Christians should post Beatitudes, not Decalogue
Is the Christian right followers of Christ or Moses?

http://www.kentucky.com/mld/kentucky/news/editorial/14786377.htm

By Jerome Meckier
Supporters of posting the Ten Commandments in America's post offices or on the lawns of state capitols misunderstand separation of church and state.

Unfortunately, their grasp of Christianity is just as faulty.

The Commandments are a pre-Christian document central to the covenant between the God of the Old Testament and his chosen people.

For Christians, the New Testament supersedes the Old. Tolerance and compassion replace the demand for an eye for an eye. The Sermon on the Mount, nine blessings, takes precedence over 10 strictures from Mount Sinai. Christians would do better to post the Beatitudes.

1. It's supposed to supercede the Old.
But that hasn't stopped many people, now has it?

And then there are the fools who mock both, just for the sake that religion is wrong. Unfortunately, it's hard to claim to be a superior person supporting tolerance and compassion without a deity when they do not counter arguments, they throw stones of their own.

And that's the problem. Not a need for a deity. A need for people, in general, to grow the frig up. People on both sides.

4. Though I am a non believer, I respect the wisdom of
Christ's teachings. I find the beatitudes a roadmap to a civil society.

I would rather live with true followers of Christ than with the Pharisee and Sadducce. That is where the battle lines have been drawn.

3. It seems, if you're a fundamentalist, the Beatitudes
are non-existent.

5. Your average "Christian" knows nothing of these.
After all there isn't a single "Thou Shall Not....." in the pack.

6. Not that the fundies
pay attention to "Thou shalt not Kill." Forgiveness, of course, is beyond them. And 90 per cent of nominal Christians.

8. They know the words, and the pastor sometimes says them, but
they leave those words sitting in the pew when they go home.
