The Bush administration has no credible basis for planning military strikes against Iran. Even the horrible record of Iran's current hard-line government provides no reason for a new Middle Eastern misadventure.

... But this is a White House that used diplomacy as part of a blatant propaganda campaign to win public support for the Iraq invasion. The administration has reaffirmed its dangerous policy of pre-emptive war, despite the president's stunning mistakes in assessing Iraq's weapons programs.

... The White House holds a dangerously simplistic view of Iran as a target in its war on terror. Bush has shown no interest in friendly engagement, the most promising way to promote change in a country with a restless, young population. Only wild speculation could suggest any good will come of military planning by an administration with such a limited view.
